Who's more likely to be in heaven, Hitler or Gandhi?

Sure he is..

It always boggles the mind how ignorant of history..real history..most people are..

Please enlighten us on how Ghandi was responsible for the deaths from the communal violence. Your quote says he was a key element in pacifying the violence. You believe the Hindu nationalists, who held him responsible for partition? Please explain.

Passive or not..he pushed for independence. When India got their independence the aftermath wasn't pretty. There was a great deal of violence and Muslims were forced from their homes into Pakistan.

An "un-intended consequence" was that millions died.
From your post:
The violence was stopped by early September owing to the cooperative efforts of both Indian and Pakistani leaders, and especially due the efforts of Mohandas Gandhi, the leader of the Indian freedom struggle, who undertook a fast-unto-death in Calcutta and later in Delhi to calm people and emphasize peace despite the threat to his life.

Pushing for independence from an imperial power is something to be lauded, not held in suspicion. Unless, of course, you happen to be the imperial power. And then one would have to consider his own actions for causing the need for a popular uprising.

Freedom trumps tyranny. Stopping violence trumps causing violence. Comparing Gandhi to Hitler is an exercise in futility. One was pure evil, the other did nothing but foster co-operation and peace.

Here's the kicker.

Both are responsible for the deaths of millions. AND..for the causes of Nationalism and Religion.:eusa_whistle:

Gandhi isn't responsible for the deaths of anyone, let alone millions. If you are going to make a ridiculous accusation you could have the decency of attempting to back yourself up.

Sure he is..

Partition Of IndiaMain article: Partition of India
An estimated 3.5 million[6][7][8][9][10] Hindus and Sikhs living in West Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, Baluchistan, East Bengal and Sind migrated to India in fear of domination and suppression in Muslim Pakistan. Communal violence killed an estimated one million Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs, and gravely destabilized both Dominions along their Punjab and Bengal boundaries, and the cities of Calcutta, Delhi and Lahore. Both Governments constructed large relief camps for incoming and leaving refugees, and the Indian Army was mobilized to provide humanitarian assistance on a massive scale. The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 1948 was carried out by Nathuram Vinayak Godse, who was affiliated with the Hindu nationalist movement, which held him responsible for partition and charged that Gandhi was appeasing Muslims. More than one million people flooded the streets of Delhi to follow the procession to cremation grounds and pay their last respects.

It always boggles my mind on how people don't bother reading the alleged sources they quote.

Gandhi stopped the violence. Your own source says so.

If the people had listened to Gandhi, there wouldnt have been a single death. If the people listened to Hitler there would have been millions more deaths.

Pretty big difference.

But hey, to you there is no difference. Because everyone is ignorant of history but you.

Are you honestly trying to say that Gandhi was anything but a great person. He was wrong on many things and his pacifist style would not work in all uprisings, but he was nothing less than a great man and should be praised for it!

I've been pondering that quite a bit, and I am not convinced that his ahisma wouldn't work in all circumstances... But then, I dont think we have a people who would dedicate themselves to non-violence to the point of their own death while having love for their enemies. So I dont know that it will ever be tested fully.

There was already substantial violence in India.

Do you honestly place blame for millions who died on Ghandi, instead of the people who actually committed the violence?

Yep.

And of course..the Brits.

The source is a nutshell of actual events. And influenced by "Western" sensibility.

Millions died as a result of independence. That's what Ghandi brought about.

Name a single person Gandhi killed or ordered killed.

If you can't, then no one was killed because of his actions.

And Gandhi was not responsible for the partition. He actively worked against it till the day he died. In fact, it was his opposition to the partition that motivated his assassins to murder him.

If anyone is responsible for the partition it was the British and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

You've missed the point.

But okay.

And the people of Pakistan do not consider Ghandi a hero.

Why do you think that?

Millions died as a result of the cultural revolution in China. How many do you actually think were rounded up and killed? Not very many.

How many do you think died as a result of the 5 year agricultural plan?

Millions.

Mao gets the blame.

And rightfully so.

Hitler was born a christian, used the lord in his speeches, Nazi uniforms often adorned lines from the Bible on their belts.

Gandhi was born a Hindu and remained one throughout the duration of his life.

It seems to me Hitler would be a lot more likely to accept Jesus Christ as his savior and ask God for forgiveness at the end of his life than Gandhi would have been as a Hindu who really never had any even minor involvement in christianity.

What say you?

They're both burning in hell along side of Ted Kennedy and Micheal Jackson.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

How your logic works:

1) My son scored 38 goals last year as the stiker in his soccer team
2) Wayne Rooney scored over 40 goals for Manchester United
3) The conclusion being my son and Wayne Rooney are similar :cuckoo:

The Pakis don't like Ghandi because he was a Hindu, not because he split up India. You think the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis want to be part of India.

Your argument is inane..
