The Crestline fires in California resulted from the bark beetle. Acres of dead wood that environmentalists wouldn't permit clearing, nor any act that would endanger the bark beetle.

A friend of mine had a cabin up in Crestline. She got a notice from the forest fire service to clear the dead wood and brush from her property. She started work and got a notice from the EPA to cease clearning and restore the property to its natural form putting all the dead brush back. She was fined too for clearning it away. She sold the place instead, two months later Crestline went up like a matchstick.

I know...I visited the area a week after the fires were contained....Have a good friend who lives on the ridge in Crestline....It was also an arson fire.

Good thing they didn't get heavy rains afterward.
