Who wants us to drive over the fiscal cliff?

Yes, let them expire, problem solved. You really think the democrats want them to expire?? All I see is finger pointing in the 'R' direction, yet the 'Ds' had an opportunity to let them expire and they didn't, and they won't let them expire this time either. Is it your position that the dems want them to expire? No action needed?

My position on the Bush tax cuts debate is that this is one giant smoke and mirrors misdirection.

We don't need the Bush tax cuts to expire. We don't need the Bush tax cuts NOT to expire.

We need tax reform. We need to eliminate all tax expenditures. All of them. Every last one. And ban them forevermore.

This solves several problems in one fell swoop.

First, it broadens the tax base to where you can lower tax rates on everyone. If you earn $50K and your neighbor earns $50K, you will both pay the exact same amount of tax. It does not get more fair than that.

And with lower tax rates, we can bring more people into the taxpayer tent. We will have more people with skin in the game.

Second, you can't bribe a Congressman with campaign cash to insert a loophole in the tax code if he isn't allowed to insert a loophole. So there goes your campaign finance problems.

Third, with the field leveled and Congressman unable to solicit bribes, their chances of re-election drop from 97 percent (that really is the current rate of re-election despite 7 or 8 major campaign finance reforms in the past 40 years).

If it becomes easier to defeat an incumbent who is not financed by wealthy people wanting gifts, then the turnover rate rises. So much for the need for term limits.

Tax reform. Not this cut or that cut or this increase or that increase. We are being seriously played by the shitheads on both sides of the aisle who are all desperate to cling onto their power.

.

Get out of my HEAD!!

Bla bla bla,

There is NO way to fix this problem by just cutting.
Why not?
The numbers dont add up you fucking fact adverse idiot.
Show me the numbers.
That means the problem is predomenately a revenue problem.
Assumes facts not in evidence.
I know facts mean nothing to the likes of you who frequent libertarian blogs.
What facts?
Do you realise that the Austrian school is considered the short bus school of economics by all other schools of economics?
You mean the fiat currency Keynesians that AUTHORED this mess?

Who wants or doesn't want it and why?

Most republicans want president Barack Obama to drive over the cliff. I however think only a very stupid person would want the president to drive the economy or anything over the cliff -

You see, if Barack Obama or any president crashes anything, you, too, would be affected. Therefore, it is wise and naturally logical (to a sane human, of course) to pray for God's guidance and the well being of the president.

I havn't heard of any Republican wanting to drive off the cliff, I have only heard the opposite. I have heard liberals saying they wouldn't mind driving off the cliff with the big defense cuts that would come into place.

Driving off the fiscal cliff is only going to hurt the people, you cant look at it any other way. Really the only thing we can do to save our economy and truly put us back on top is to stop making our business fight the rest of the world with both hands tied behind their back. In the 50's and 60's, yea we dominated the rest of the world because of our economy, why? Because the rest of the world was decimated by WWII, and our homeland was left largely unaffected. We no longer have that advantage, all we have our many different disadvantages, which is why we our outsourcing not just our manufacturing, but also our service industries...which is ridiculous. How do people see that, and not see it as a problem, or ignore the underlying cause. Why is Canadas economy looking so much better than our own... because they are business friendly.

The Rs should give Obama what he wants, raise taxes on the top 2%. That will surely put a big old dent in the debt. I mean Obama has certainly implied as much and he knows best, his economic smarts are far better than most plus he's our president! He promised he'd cut spending later, down the road a bit and he will do this, for sure .. he said so, so it's as good as done! Let's give him what he wants and see what happens. Really, it's for the best, and it's totally fair to have one segment pay more than other segments (that's the new definition of 'fair share', get with the times) and it will help ... lots. Go for it, Rs. Please, just do it.

This scenario may be a reality.

<snip>

Think about this for a minute, the Republicans are still in denial that the re-election of Obama was a fluke and that he doesn't have a mandate by the American people. Only four Presidents in 80 years have received over 50% of the popular vote in their elections and re-elections. They are, Franklin Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan and now Obama.

If January 1st rolls around and a grand deal has not occurred, the Bush tax cuts expire, meaning every single tax rate goes back to the old Clinton rates. This is not what President Obama wants to happen, as he stated he wants to extend the current tax rates for income up to a quarter million dollars and increase the tax rate on income over a quarter million dollars.

President Obama also knows that the stubborn Republicans will not budge on their allegiance to Grover Norquist. The fiscal cliff will definiately put the Republican party in a bind.

So, come January 1st all tax rates will increase, the Republicans of course will point to and blame Obama, but Obama will counter punch them and urge the passage of the "Obama Tax Cuts". These tax cuts will be for income up to a quarter million dollars only.

So either the GOP passes the tax cuts on January 2nd for all income up to to a quarter million they allow the Clinton rates for everyone to stay.

The ball will be in their court and Obama will either win their support or the Republicans look like they really don't care about the middle class and are just the party of the wealthy aristocrats

Then, of course there's Dick Durbin's scenario -- Dick Durbin: Fiscal cliff now, entitlements later
.

I agree, let's raise taxes on the rich and only the rich. Do it! Our fiscal problems will be so much closer to being solved and Obama will be seen as the Savior, like the left says he is. The Rs are dopes for sticking to their guns Obama will slam them, blame them, belittle them and he might even demonize them ... just like a classy, uniting president should. Better to give in to dear leader now while there's still time. And with the massive increase in revenue from those richy rich folks ... well, I'll breath easier knowing that those increases will really help with the debt. Heck maybe we won't even need to cut any spending at all!

Taxing the rich will cut about 40% off the DEFICT....no one is even talking about touching the debt let alone trying to pay it down. It will go up the only question is how fast?

I see your sarcasm meter reader is broken.

Yes we want the top tier tax cuts to expire.

Its the republicans who have fought for the wealthy like they owed them their lives

No, no... :nono:. the 'Bush tax cuts for the rich' were only for the rich, that's what the left claimed for years, so there should be no action needed, all tax cuts expire. All of them.

Approximately 90% went to the top 10%.

The way I see it, Obama has the best cards and the wingnuts are drawing to an inside straight. Obama is already out there explaining why the inflexible congress will hurt middleclass and poor families if they don't negotiate in good faith. The GOP will take the hit for that. Obama will also have the final say on what agencies have to cut to make the numbers work. Since Defense is our most bloated department, that could be interesting. Let's scale back on some of those Red State shipyards, like in Mississippi, where the military says they don't need new carriers. Scale back Fort Hood.

As for raising taxes, that hurt the most wealthy, all Obama has to do is nothing. He offered to negotiate in good faith, but the right wing scumbags want to stick with Grover Norquest.

No bacon for you, wingnuts.

You don't get it. Obama's "tax the rich" works to take care of only eight days of deficit out of the year. Fiscal cliff is straight down.

Who wants or doesn't want it and why?

I say let's push the pedal hard, crank up Guns and Roses as loud as it will go and fly over that Mother effin cliff as fast as we can....

The Libs will not cut spending on anything of meaning except they would love to
cancel all spending on defense...So let's just end this charade.

You know these fucks are gonna blame the right for everything anyway and their dopey
followers will listen to MSNBC 24/7...and believe whatever crap comes out from them...

Fort Hood - where the muslum terror attack occured. Too bad Obama doesn't have the balls to call it what it was.
Would you like to articulate precisely where Obama made a good faith attempt to make any meaningful cuts?
The way I look at it is the republicans have put tax hikes on the most successful ( job creators ) on the table but the Obama socialist will not compromise!
When we go off the cliff, your sacred intitlements will be cut, and you libs will flip out, because it will be your fault, and too fucking late! :asshole:

Be honest, both the left and the right are at fault. the dems and reps are the two most corrupt parties in the history of our nation and I think our forefathers would be shocked to see how far we have fallen.
