Intersting that Obama has no votes yet. He would have been my second choice. I think his more charismatic nature fools people into thinking he's less liberal than he is. I would put him farther left than Hillary.

Why is Rudy on here? Yeah he's more moderate than some of the other Republican candidates, but more liberal than any of the other 3? Come on.

Guess I have to revise now that acts got in on the ..... act......(that was awful). But really folks there should't be any debate here. Kucinich is an absolute screw ball.

I went with Obama...Hillary is liberal, hell she's practically socialist...but I have no doubt that Hillary would become an ardent pro-life, pro-war, churchgoing conservative if she thought it would get her elected.

And Kucinich...well, come on...everyone knows hes not even human...

Funny you should say that, just yesterday I was having a conversation along this vein.

I am of the opinion that the two parties are essentially interchangeable, that there are no Republicans, no Democrats. I believe that politicians choose their respective party based on getting elected. This all they care about. You could take a Maryland Democrat, put them in Utah, and I am convinced that they would switch their affiliation in order to win the election. Same goes for Republican politicians. Career politicians have ruined the system.

There was a time in this country when our legislators would go to Washington, do their work there, then return to their homes and go back to work at their farms, their law firms, or whatever business it was that provided their main source of income. It was an honor to serve in Congress, not a job and certainly not a living.

This is one of the main reasons I found myself leaning further and further to the libertarian/independent vein of politics.

Our founding fathers never wanted career politicians. (They didn't want the "unwashed masses" voting either, however, and we shouldn't forget that.) It is common sense to see that when someone has to depend on others to keep their cushy, high-paying job...that many of them are going to care more about pleasing those that can keep them in power more than about what is right. The problem is, if intelligent voters exercised our power....this wouldn't be a problem...we would vote out the corrupt...not let them stay in power for their entire lives.

Congress members are disgustingly overpaid. Not to mention they were rich before they were able to even run for congress.

Yes and no. Let's look at how long Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, etc were on the scene and political, regardless of the manners of the day. The time they were living, men in politics were very much like the women in Victorian times. "Getting vapors and saying I'm retiring." They made Nixon look like he was steadfast in being kicked around.
