Just a thought that the US spends more on defense than the next 10 militaries combined. With SS & Medicare going broke, and the budget deficit so large, we may need to reduce the military budget until we get a surplus.

IMHO the US should not bear the expense of a world-class military when the other countries elect to spend resources on socialist programs instead of defense. Its time to balance the military spending and social programs more evenly.

Why do you hate America and want terrorists to win?

I put yes, even though I wouldn't consider what other nations spend on their defense as being relevant to my beliefs.

Totally on board with it.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could still be carried out (not that I'm in favor of that...just sayin') while still reducing DoD spending, if we started closing bases around the globe that have outlived their military usefulness.

Wow, all yes votes. No Neo-Cons must have seen this yet.

I know the Libertarians will say yes.

Word, that's the best way to start.

Holy shit we agree on something. LOL.

what would make us safer is fewer lame bureaucrats not passing along memos, and playing turf battles with one another, all we've done is fund more of that, and will be paying interest on that in the future

goal should be to bring annual defense down to 300-350 billion

I'm amazed at the poll being 9 - 0. I'm somewhat of a "hawk" but when push-comes-to-shove we can't allow military spending to sink the US. I'm not saying cut the defense budget in half, but it needs to be reduced for a few years until the deficit becomes manageable.

The problem now is to find a few pols with the stones to propose reasonable cuts.

wow , I am amazed, so who on either side has the balls to do it?

Nobody. Republicans would never accept any cut in military spending, and Democrats wouldn't make any significant steps to not get blamed for gutting the military. Well, you know, how Clinton terribly gutted the military?

k did you ever serve? it hasn't changed, the peons got shit on , the officers had to kiss up to get promoted, to get where the real money was, can you say Congress and I don't care who is in control, the corps pretty much fund anyone they think will win , with lots of bucks, in this case shit flows up hill

LMAO!....."real money"......

You could be asked the same question, Gomer.

A decent upper-middle manager out in The World can knock down a better pay package than a Major General.

....real money......*snert*

If you cut the entire defense budget and all discretionary spending, you still wouldn't balance the budget.
