Who here "opposes" this simple Sanders' proposal?

When seniors were switched over to Medicare D, their cost of prescription drugs shot up.

If I recall correctly, Bush's 2003 Medicare screw up, ALSO banned states from "repatriation" of drugs from Canada....thereby allowing seniors to be screwed out of accessing cheaper drugs (that were originally manufactured in the states, anyway.)
Bush agreed to the provision about drug prices in order to get the pharmaceutical companies to endorse Part D. He sold out.

As for Canada, I always chuckle when I hear people say our seniors should be able to buy their drugs there.

Hello? Our senior population is greater than the entire population of Canada! So how do you think that would work out?

I have never purchased a drug from Canada. I am a senior-----what is stopping me from buying drugs from Canada. My scripts do not say "MEDICARE" on them

One of Sanders' proposal is not only sane but doable if only congress was not a bunch of self-centered cowards...The proposal is to compel Medicare to openly negotiate with big pharmaceuticals companies for lower prices based on volume.....

Who would lose if this proposal were to become a reality? Big pharma's CEOs and board members who no longer could upgrade to more modern Lear jets every few years.
==========
They don't HAVE to compel Medicare.

Medicare would LOVE to price shop.

But Mr. Boehner insisted on putting that in there for the benefit of the pharmaceutical companies when he negotiated Obamacare with Obama.

BTW Obama gave Boehner almost everything he wanted and then Boehner pretends he hates it all and doesn't know how it possibly got written up that way.

What a fuckin' lie. Boehner was involved in creating Medicare just as much as Obama was.

until the individual has the power to negotiate lower prices, nobody should.
If the companies end up giving a 25% discount to medicare, the you can bet that money is going to be made up in a 25% increase to other insurance companies or to the individual client.
If not for that, I would be 100% behind this.

right a MEDICARE recipient----in order to get drug coverage has to have SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE. That insurance has to worry about the payments

Still can't figure it out???? But, fear not, you have other imbeciles who agree with you.

figure what out? with what do the other imbeciles agree?

It's simple: Should older people pay more or less for their medications?

Don't worry; you won't have to pay for them.

Do you have a thought at all?

I am older----I pay for all my scripts. I like the idea of paying less------I would not buy meds from Canada

No one can but they can point at the word Socialism and go "Eww Yucky"

no doubt that Sanders is quite socialistic-------ok ---fine with me----but as far as how is programs will be FINANCED_------he seems to have NO IDEA and certainly no viable
plan

What do you mean financed? He's saying they should be able to negotiate. You dont need to finance a negotiation
So the democrats set up a program in the 60s and they weren't allowed to negotiate for prices? Uh........this is the crap that the left does, next time think it out.

the proposal makes no sense------"MEDICARE" does not BUY medications

Yes it does.

There is a Medicare Prescription Benefit ... thanks to Bush who pushed it through to pacify the unwashed masses as he tried for re-election. Worked too.

Medicare also pays for a lot of medications when people have surgery etc. etc.

right----free market economy. I is a old lady on lots of meds-----I pay for them in
the local pharmacy ----I do not mind if other old goats fill their scripts in Canada or Walmart------or in communist china

You were doing fine until that last sentence.

The deal was put in there in 2004.

I can oppose that for one simple reason...... Medicare has no Legal right to exist or Moral foundation.

Would not Sanders simply nationalize all drug development and production?

Think about how well government does stuff while you're standing in line at the post office next.

Funny you should bring that up again Henry. You know, after the last time? When I described how the post office got me stuff from Maine and California in as little as six days (from China), while it took UPS three fucking weeks to bring my package from Kansas City, crying the blues about "oh dear, there's snow on the ground"? :gay:
So you want everything run by the government?

I do not have a medicare benefit---------IF PEOPLE ARE HOSPITALIZED and
they have medicare ------------the meds come from the hospital pharmacy

You cant oppose something that exists by saying it shouldnt. I'm sure people say hell shouldnt be hot and look how that works out

I don't know how Canada came into the conversation, but if you were to order meds online from a "Canadian pharmacy," they'd actually be coming from India, China, Sri Lanka, or a host of other countries.

That's where American drugs are made, regardless of how you, the consumer, end up with them. The big difference is in the pricing.

Left KC in 95 ... good place to be from ... far from

i agree about the postoffice.

I had something sent and got confirmation that it left Viginia at 8:41 am on Tuesday shipped regular First Class mail $3.80 (I think that is right ) shipping charge.

I was expecting it maybe Friday ( today now ) or Saturday or even Monday.

Showed up in my mailbox Wednesday afternoon!!!!

I have always had great service from the USPS.
Far better than Fed Ex or UPS.

Nope. The company HQ is probably somewhere in New Jersey, but the manufacturing has been outsourced.
