"It's an untenable position to say we're not going to do anything on Medicare and Medicaid when that's one of the biggest drivers of our budget deficit."

"Democrats are saying, "No, we can't do that. And now the president, after telling Boehner he would do that, is going out on the campaign trail saying those bad Republicans want to cut Medicare."

Obama is cutting what is paid to doctors. He is cutting waste. He is providing oversight so that doctors and hospitals abide by best practices rather than profit making measures.

I have personally had 3 expensive MRI's for the identical reason so that 3 different doctors could each charge Medicare - but Blue Cross turned down paying for the second two. Why should Medicare have to pay because every little burg and doctor group has their own machine? It should not.

The patient cannot refuse the procedure or the practice dumps them and they have to find another MD very quickly or go unmedicated. That's lovely for an 85 year old, huh.

Ryan and Romney promise vouchers if you don't want to stay on Medicare. But they will drain Medicare dry by 2016 so everyone will get vouchers - including the over 55's. R&R are lying to now.

So it is a matter of controlling doctors and hospitals (Obama) or 3 years and Medicare dies altogether for everyone. (Romney). THAT is the real choice here.

Spoken like a true statist.

Only a progressive loon would propose that paying doctors is "waste". It's because you don't give a shit if health care is rationed, and people die.

Cuz it's good when people die.

Efficiency is not statism, it is progressivism and good business practice. Reducing payments will induce better practices by doctors. Ryan is making noises of doing the same. Is that statism? Do you know just what is statism, koshergrl?

Someone gives you facts and you just plug your stupid ears.

God damnit do we need to flush people like you right out of this country.

I want my country back.

So you support Obama, then, Koshergirl? Because from the sound of it, he will actually reduce federal spending on Medicare more than Romney. And you are for that, right?

Pay is also a loose term here. Medicare dictates to the patient and any other healthcare coverage that person has (yes, some do), how much that company can pay as well. Know what really helps control healthcare costs? COPAYS and DEDUCTABLES.

Cutting medicare is cutting medicare.

The statist mantra..."We're just cutting what they pay the HOSPITALS...we're just cutting what they pay the DOCTORS...cuz THAT is waste"...that is cutting medicare still. And all the while they scream that Republicans are going to cut medicare...while they're doing it already as fast as they possibly can. $716 billion so far...

Well Medicare pays doctors and hospitals. So when you cut what you pay them, they crunch down on what they do for patients.

And in fact, the way they are addressing this is to schedule their patients for more NON-COVERED stuff, and cut down on their medicare patient quotas.

Which results in higher medical costs, and more difficulty finding a doctor, for medicare patients.

Indeed koshergrl, Medicaid and Medicare are quickly leading to a two-tiered healthcare system in the US.

Health insurance companies dictates the coverage to the patent and the care provide. Copays and Deductibles are used to limit health care usage.

Every good white Republican knows that if you stop paying doctors and hospitals they'll stop taking medicare patients. I don't know why stupid democrats can't figure that shit out on their own. You gotta tell en every damn thing. Sheesh.

No companies outline the coverage they will pay for. You are free to have whatever you want done, as long as the doctor is willing to perform the service.

We never had the country you want, the country we had was to reward hard work and success. The country liberals want hates successful people and wants to share the wealth. What obama wants and I hope he fails!

Flat lie that. Don't believe me. Call your health care company and ask if their coverage limits care, coverage, and costs.

Nope Jake, you just have to pay for it yourself. Pretty simple really.

Medicare and Medicaid actually DO dictate what can be done and the maximum price of treatment.

Paying doctors for zero effect on patient outcomes is waste. We spend more every single year on care and overhead that does nothing to make anyone better than Obamacare "cuts" from Medicare over the next decade. Our system is broken and that's why it's exorbitantly expensive.

When more than 30 cents out of every health dollar spent in the United States does nothing to improve patient health or outcomes, anyone who doesn't make the rampant waste in our system Public Enemy Number One in his health care agenda is either an idiot or a charlatan.

See the Institute of Medicine just a month ago:

The U.S. health care system squanders $750 billion a year — roughly 30 cents of every medical dollar — through unneeded care, byzantine paperwork, fraud and other waste, the influential Institute of Medicine said Thursday in a report that ties directly into the presidential campaign.

"Health care in America presents a fundamental paradox," said the report from an 18-member panel of prominent experts, including doctors, business people, and public officials. "The past 50 years have seen an explosion in biomedical knowledge, dramatic innovation in therapies and surgical procedures, and management of conditions that previously were fatal ...

"Yet, American health care is falling short on basic dimensions of quality, outcomes, costs and equity," the report concluded.

More than 18 months in the making, the report identified six major areas of waste: unnecessary services ($210 billion annually); inefficient delivery of care ($130 billion); excess administrative costs ($190 billion); inflated prices ($105 billion); prevention failures ($55 billion), and fraud ($75 billion). Adjusting for some overlap among the categories, the panel settled on an estimate of $750 billion.

Examples of wasteful care include most repeat colonoscopies within 10 years of a first such test, early imaging for most back pain, and brain scans for patients who fainted but didn't have seizures.

The report makes ten recommendations, including payment reforms to reward quality results instead of reimbursing for each procedure, improving coordination among different kinds of service providers, leveraging technology to reinforce sound clinical decisions and educating patients to become more savvy consumers.

Obamacare will wipe it out. I don't know where they think they'll get the money to fund that. Obama keeps claiming that people can keep their insurance and their doctors and we're only helping to insure the uninsured. Now, we see that there will still be as many people uninsured, yet insurance rates will skyrocket and many will lose what they have now. So, what good will it do other than break a lot of people's budgets and put the country further into debt? It's not about the health care, it's about bigger government and more oppressive laws that will be used to control the population, both the number of people and our lives.
