Who are you More Angry at, the Retailer or the Parent who Purchased it?...

It's only a matter of time, kids...

Sexualizing children is a sign of something... anyone care to guess what that is?

"Completely disgraceful," Conservative Party leader David Cameron said of the bikini. "The sort of country I want is one where it is not just the government (that) feels outraged about the early commercialization and sexualization of our children, but companies should stop doing it, they should take some responsibility."

I remember criticizing a good friend for buying her 6th grader thongs. Her daughter didn't have an ounce of fat on her body, so the "panty line" excuse was pure BS. Exposing thongs above low rider jeans is NOT about panty lines. I made her think at least. But even Victoria Secret is marketing to children,

Marketing certainly skews public perception. A lot of low quality stuff pushes out better products because it has superior marketing. The parents are ultimately to blame for being guileless boobs who so easily fall prey when they should know better.

I agree with Care and del :

First, who in the hell OK'd that idea in the marketing meeting for the "go ahead" to make these?

Then, what freaking store was stupid enough to buy them from the makers?

And last, what seriously f*ed up parent bought it for the kid.

Those are the 3 things/people to blame.

Of course I blame reality shows too!

ditto all the above.

but, corporations/businesses are amoral...neither good nor evil. they exist solely to make a profit.

the blame is the parent who would be such a loser that they'd buy that for a little girl.

Obviously any parent who buys this is a sick fuck, but living at the Jersey shore, nothing surprises me. I've seen little girls with "porn star" t-shirts and "bootilicious" shorts. But hey - there are some people on here that will say soon those little darlins will be gettin it on in Middle School, so what the hey?

THOSE little darlin's probably will. I remember fighting with my daughter in middle school about whether or not she was going to dress like a two-dollar whore the way her friends were. I remember, "Well, I'll just get Grandma to buy it for me", and my response of "It might not be my money, but it's my house and my daughter. Buy it and I'll burn it."

It is real simple, don't buy it.
And they wouldn't make it if there was not a demand for it.

And it is your own fault if your child dresses like a slut, but go ahead and blame your problems on others.

True, concise and to the point. :clap2:

I was trained differently....I was taught by some very smart business people, ...probably some of the smartest in my field of industry imho, and I was taught that businesses are not amoral and should not be and that an instant profit today but gone tomorrow is NOT the way to grow any business long term and that because we had share holders that primarily invested for the long term, that was our goal....

Just because Nike was using slave labor to produce their product at lower prices, didn't mean that we had to stoop to their level just to compete with them type of things....we were faced with moral decisions all the time....do we buy 10,000 square feet of this leather that some fly by nighter is offering us at 50% of what we would normally pay, WITHOUT RESEARCHING to see if it was stolen so we can play dumb down the road if we were caught or not buy it in the first place if even slightly suspicious and lose the chance to make a kazillion? Do we sponsor a Koby Bryant?

Yes, it is true that some businesses may take the easy way out or the chance of being risque with their advertising just to whore themselves, but this happens in real life too with some women or men choosing to prostitute themselves.....lucrative in the short run, pretty crappy in the long term outlook of the 'business'....

Funny thing is, at the same time my daughter's friends started wearing clothes so revealing a streetwalker would blush to own them, their mothers were horrified - HORRIFIED, I tell you - at the idea of letting their daughters own any underwear but plain white cotton. What, precisely, did they think they were proving to anyone?

You are joking, right? Just because something is for sale, doesn't mean people have to buy it (except, apparently, health insurance)....

Parental responsibility.

Precisely. The designers, marketers etc would soon remove it if idiotic parents didn't buy it. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure their children dress appropriately.
