While I certainly can appreciate and agree in many cases with you that that happens. If one was to look from the otherside, perhaps one would begin to see that both side of the coin, can indeed flip.

Isaac I can agree that some on both sides can be way too extreme and intolerant. With that said, are there many or few long time posters of either end of the political spectrum that are so intolerant that you cannot stay and argue your points? We've missed you around here. I was glad to see you pop up the other day and Mr. Marbles a few days earlier.

What does sour things is the personal attacks, the labelling and the Ad Hominem dismissals. It's not that my shattered self esteem can't take it! Hardly. Words are only words, and for those choice ones, I hardly have the investment in them to take to heart. The point is, is that i joined and participated in order to talk about current issues, and indeed I enjoyed many great conversations with current folks like Jim, GOPJeff, No1, Said, Kathianne and others and also past folk like DK, Wonderwench, Eric and Nighttrain.

A casual glance, back at previous threads would show they were much more civil, certainly more stimulating and frankly a lot more enjoyable. Many threads go by these days with dissenters being marginalized. And no, I won't report every post or poster that does this, as most people seem happy to continue on that way and I have no right to suggest that they do not.

It is not soely my board, and while it is product of the various contributors, it is ultimately and generously funded by Jim and Co. and thus you have the right to form it in any way shape or form you would like. I will still continue to enjoy my daily reading of the other's opinion and hope that the tone will someday revert to what it was.

I'm STILL trying to figure out of WHAT attitude we're speaking.

Granted, I stay close to the important threads like, "What Planet are you from" by K, or "Weekend Poll" by Dan; but I didn't think I was THAT out of touch.

I tho't this was a place to exchange ideas & opinions. I've had my butt chewed on before. And I've aggravated a few myself. I won't tolerate the name calling tho', but it's only certain individuals that resort to that. So I stay away from them. They aren't worth my time.
I've also seen good friends like Musicman & Kathianne, really duke it out. And in the end...still be friends.
I've seen RWA & OCA say unconscienable things to each other.
And I've experienced some tender moments of true caring from complete strangers.

I have immensely enjoyed using this board and read it daily. I have gathered a great respect for many members, however, I fail to see the use in posting under the current atmosphere. One, that I hope will change.

I would hope that you would rethink that position. We need posters that are willing to express an outside opinion and give reasonable debate to back it up. Regardless of negative rep, I don't think that you have ever been close to a banning and if you have it was likely rectified within minutes.

It is often actually hearing the opinions of others that will ultimately get them used to hearing it as what it is, opinion, and not an attack on their beliefs.

I have tried since the beginning of internet politics discussions, while posting on this and other boards to consistently keep from the ad hominem, except when joking. Surely I have failed once or twice, but I try to always keep it civil. There is nothing like a good debate generating true knowledge while working to back up opinion with facts. It is, to me at least, intoxicating. We need to see more posts from reasonable people with differing opinions, sometimes they will need to work through the beginning time when people are working to get to know you, the NegRep period. But if they stick it through they invariably become as addicted as we all are, and eventually people get used to them and usually they will find that we are actually mostly reasonable.

PE, being one who has given you many neg and some positive, you must heed the D post that follows for Gabby advice. While your position never changed, your way of expressing it did and you started picking up + points. That's the whole point.

Granted if you want 'big' numbers, gotta be close to the majority, but those that disagree, sometimes vehemently, can stay positive, but acting decently.

Garbledella represents a total waste of time and server space. Not because she has liberal opinions. Not because her monstrously over-inflated ego leaves her incapable of considering other views. Not because she is an arrogant airhead who thinks that somehow the rest of us are impressed with the Berkely credentials she constantly waves in our faces. The reason we need to flush posters like her is that her opinions and her posts lack any VALUE.

Read the crap she throws out. There is no support, no factual basis for her rantings. She's not interested in DEBATE, she's only interested in tossing out her unsubstantiated and generally worthless opinions. When someone attempts to engage her in an honest debate, all they get in return is more lib talking points. When you nail her ass and PROVE she's wrong, she simply ignores it.

She has caused nothing but turmoil on the board since the day she popped up like an embarrassing pimple. The ONLY reason she has been tolerated as long as she has is because she IS a lib. I suspect this is Jim's own version of equal opportunity :teeth: . Well, I'll modify that last statement - that's probably only partly the reason she's still here. I suspect that the balance is a mixture of her value as comic relief (sort of 3 Stooges style) and I imagine some people are simply wondering if she can come up with anything dumber to post than her last. So far, she's managed to surpass herself every time.
