IRS Figures: Average aggregate income taxes

Income Group-----Tax Share
Top 1%--33.7 percent
Top 5%--53.87 percent
Top 10%--65.7 percent
Top 25%--83.9 percent
Top 50%--96.5 percent

The data also reveal the despite the Bush tax cut, the income tax is still highlt progressive--taking more form each group as their incomes rise. the following percentages measure the taxes paid by each group divided by their income. Economists call this the average or effective tax rate.

Income Group:
Top 1%--27.25 percent
Top 5%--22.95 percent
Top 10%--20.51 percent
Top 25%--16.99 percent
Top 50%--14.66 percent
Bottom 50%--3.21 percent

Looks like the rich and middle-class are getting hit pretty well.

they wish to give "Tax Breaks" to DON"T PAY MUCH IF ANY TAXES!!!

But then that would kill the class warfare argument they have been running up the flagpole for 70 years....

pssst...thats cause they have all the money.

Bingo--you think they should be punished some more because they are successful .

Umm, nice assumption but unfortunately a bit off the mark.

I think someone has to pay taxes, and gee it might as well be the people with all the money.

Taxing the poor is like going fishing in Nevada.

Still on the same subject but switching gears to business.

Is there anyone who actually believe that any business pays taxes at all?

I wish your side would acknowledge that they pay less of the taxes because they can not afford to pay more taxes with so little income to survive on.....untill this is recognized, we will continue to be a borrow and spend nation and China will own us.....

you can't get blood out of a turnip:(

Taxes should not be income based. It's discriminatory, invades your privacy, assumes you are guilty, and fosters a lumbering behemoth of a .gov.

You showed the tables.

What is the reality of who actually pay taxes?

Waren Bufftet says he pays less than his secretary.

And whose fault is it they have such low incomes? When the only skills you have are flipping burgers or ringing up sales on a point of sale device, whose fault is that?

On his SALARY which is $100,000/yr. Guess his secretary hauls down some serious coin!

Now Warren pays more on capital gains every day than his secretary has paid in her entire life.

if buffett really paid less than his secretary, he'd be in trouble with the IRS.

His company, Berkshire-Hathaway, which he owns 100%, pays more in taxes in a single day than every poster on this forum has and will pay in their entire lives.

But it is TRUE Elvis....and he is not breaking the law at all, the tax laws have been manipulated and reduced with added deductions added for this or that to allow the most wealthiest pay the least amount they have ever paid in income taxes...Buffet says this himself....

we definately need tax reform if a billionaire pays less as a percentage of income in taxes than an execultive secretary.

Buffett blasts system that lets him pay less tax than secretary
Tom Bawden in New York
Warren Buffett, the third-richest man in the world, has criticised the US tax system for allowing him to pay a lower rate than his secretary and his cleaner.

Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion (£26 billion), said: “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you’re in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent.”

Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. Mr Buffett told his audience, which included John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, and Alan Patricof, the founder of the US branch of Apax Partners, that US government policy had accentuated a disparity of wealth that hurt the economy by stifling opportunity and motivation.

The comments are among the most signficant yet in a debate raging on both sides of the Atlantic about growing income inequality and how the super-wealthy are taxed.

True.

And makes more than every poster in this board will make in ten lifetimes.

Poor superwealthy bastards.

Know what we should do?

We should bankrupt our nation to help them out.

Wait, that's still not good enough.

We should all kill ourselves so they don't have to pay any taxes at all.

We owe to their children to kill ours.

Fair is fair after all.

Our children won't pay enough taxes anyway.
