On the day of the Iowa Caucuses Mike Lupica wrote in the New York Daily News that Iowa was "Too white to matter". Liberals from New York to Boston and down the I-95 corridor to DC experienced orgams or nearly overpowering feelings of warmth and maganimity after reading lupica's affirmation of love and affection for multiculturalism.
A very long time ago, 1962 to 1965, I used to share a benchtop lunchtable with an elderly toolmaker of Norwegian descent where we used to 'chew the fat' along with our lunches during the break. He would remind me from time to time that "The cream always rises to the top."
Germany is one of the least ethnically diverse countries in the world. It was even less so from 1933 to 1945. It took the combined efforts over three and a half bloody years of the United States, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, Canada, other elements of the British Empire, small elements of Free French and Free Polish fighters and other rag tag elements contributed from nations around the free world to finally defeat Germany. And even then, victory wasn't certain until the first week of March, 1945 when an American Army Recon unit discovered the Ludendorf Bridge across the Rhine River at Remagen, Germany wired, but still standing. After American forces seized control of the bridge that day and defused the explosive charges previously placed on the bridge, it was all but over for Nazi Germany. But even then, the war ending might have been entirely different had Hitler allowed use of the ME 262 as a defensive weapon against the bomber streams of the Eighth Air Force and placed it into service six months earlier instead of insisting that its major purpose be in attacking Germany's enemies. The Allies had nothing comparable and development of an acceptable equivalent would have been at least a year away. May America's soldiers never have to face their like again in battle, ever.
America at the time was a nation of immigrants and among its immigrant groups was included a very large number of German immigrants and their descendants. Oddly enough, the man who orchestrated Hitler's defeat in Europe was himself of German immigrant extraction, Dwight D Eisenhower, and the man in charge of the Pacific campaign against the Japanese was also, Chester Nimitz. Eisenhower and Nimitz. Eisenhower and Nimitz. Fighting fire with fire.
After the war ended it became apparent that the American soldier, who disliked the British and despised the French, was fondest of the German people.
Fast forward to the present. Europe and its grand experiment, the European Union and the Euro are tottering financially,nearing the brink of collapse. Greece is a basket case, Its companion state Crete, in the Meditarranean, is also begging for a bail out. Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Ireland are rapidly approaching Greece's state. All are asking for, or will require, financial assistance from the European Union, but the only nation in the Union capable of bailing them out, the only nation with the necessary ethics of industry, diligence, and thrift is Germany. FDR toyed with the idea of sterilizing all surviving German males to ensure that, after Germany's starting two world wars in less than thirty years, another generation of Americans would not have to march off to extinguish another war started by Germany, but after seeing what Germany has accomplished after essentially starting from zero in 1945, that probably wouldn't have worked as Roosevelt envisioned. Even the French have abandoned any pretext of financial restraint after gazing at the German miracle. Amazingly, the French by electing Francoise Holland, are doing almost exactly what the 1938 Japanese did. After watching just how graciously accomodating the Western Democracies were to Germany's demands, the Japanese decided to go out and grab their own territory and raw materials for themselves. Mssr Hollande gained his election victory by promising the French people he would run his country and its finances in such a manner that they too, in few short years, would be able to avail themselves of the fruits of Germany's industry, diligence, and thrift.
Was the German resurgence simply a matter of random historical chance or was there a underlying mechanism behind it? If there was a mechanism, what then is the rationale for Barry's declaring the US's borders wide open to all comers? Diluting away to extinction the very reasons for America's success? or repopulating the voter rolls with people more attuned to his empty promises?
