So all military people are Republicans? Hmmm, by what standard? Democrats aren't patriotic? That's funny because my grandfather served in World War I and was a huge supporter of Woodrow Wilson. My father served aboard a destroyer in World War II, and supported both FDR and Truman (as did his shipmates). My nephew just joined the Army and reported for basic training in San Diego last Sunday. He phoned his father, my brother, a few days ago and said he expected all his new friends would make fun of his support for Barack Obama, but strangely enough, they don't. Seems they feel that the war in Afghanistan will wind down much faster with a Democrat in the White House.

Millions of white men who voted for Barack Obama are walking away from the Democratic Party, and it appears increasingly likely that they'll take the midterms elections in November with them. Their departure could well lead to a GOP landslide on a scale not seen since 1994.

For more than three decades before the 2008 election, no Democratic president had won a majority of the electorate. In part, that was because of low support -- never more than 38 percent -- among white male voters. Things changed with Obama, who not only won a majority of all people voting, but also pulled in 41 percent of white male voters.
Polling suggests that the shift was not because of Obama but because of the financial meltdown that preceded the election. It was only after the economic collapse that Obama's white male support climbed above the 38 percent ceiling. It was also at that point that Obama first sustained a clear majority among all registered voters, according to the Gallup tracking poll.

Isn't "buying into" one political ideology over another where it all starts for anyone? I mean we don't pop out on our birthday thinking "Hmmm, think I'll go Republican after I catch my first breath..." Nope. In the meantime, as the white man continued to supress their opportunities, their families and communities grew to depend on welfare so that it has NOW become a requirement for many of those families and communities. It's one of the most unfortunate situations of the history of this nation: Both parties are guilty of waiting too long to demand equality, which would have pulled the black population out of poverty long before it became out of control.

I know that still goes on, and it irritates me just as much. It's as though many want to milk the victim role as long as possible. BUT, I also don't see any relief by way of actually helping huge pockets of poor blacks to be able to pull themselves out of dire situations and those communities therefore becoming productive. Their schools are below standard in every respect, job opportunities are practically nil, and the historic lack of opportunities (going back before the 60's) has simply resulted in breeding which compounds ignorance (and I use that word in its true form, not as an insult). Just as physical characteristics are genetically passed on, so are mental and emotional capacities transcended. So we're left with entire generations who have inherited nothing but a survival instinct. That sounds harsh, but it's the truth. And I don't know how the problem can begin to be turned around.
