WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration says the cost of cleaning up a giant oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico will fall on BP PLC, the company that operated the rig.
White House spokesman Nick Shapiro says President Barack Obama has directed his administration to aggressively confront the oil spill. The military is working to determine how its array of aircraft, ships and equipment might be able to assist the cleanup operation.

Why does Obama hate big business?

Man, but according to some right-wingers on this board, and one in particular, Obama is just responding horribly here.

You go Mr President. This is one serious pile of shit. Or "a big fucking deal" as Joe would say.

Time to pull out the stops. Let's show everyone what "big government" is needed for.

What the hell was BP thinking on this one?

My father's side of the family lives in Tampa, I sure hope that slick doesn't reach that far.

Let's do a comparison of who protects us better. Corps or our gov... Accidental nuke explosion ..gov making a mistake?...nada

Massive oil spills..Corps...How about dozens of times...two biggies alaska and this one...

Who SHOULD we trust based on the track record?

bush was heavily criticized for a mere 3 days, called a racist, but the governor and mayor, barely a whisper of complaint....how many days has it been here and nothing but praise from the left for the way obama is handling it? if this was still bush, i guarantee each and every one of you would be heavily criticizing him, pointing out his ties to big oil etc....

and really, this thread makes no sense

Neither does this post.

What the hell does Katrina have to do with this oil spill?

Apparently the conservatives are going to try to make this "Obama's fault" too, like they do with everything else.

Hey the Moon exploded! That must be Obama Fault!

MY dog died! Obama's fault!

My penis won't get erect! Definitely Obama's fault!

The "PROBLEM" is BIG OIL.

Obama had nothing to do with the cause...HELLO!!! THE CAUSE!!!!

GAWWWDDD you people are fucking ZOMBIES!!!

Bush hired Brownie...a fucking show horse judge to protect us in case of a NATURAL DISASTER!!!!

Bush gave out seriously important positions based on contributions to his election funding.

Is there anyone at this point in time that would praise Bush for putting Brownie the top guy in fema?

bp..TO PAY duh!!!...YA THINK????? Man you people are dirt fucking stupid.

What the hell does Katrina have to do with this oil spill?

He's not comparing Katrina to the oil spill. He's comparing partisan responses.

So, Yurt - are you complaining that Dems aren't blaming this on Obama?

I still don't think I understand your point.

Did anyone exepct that BP woulld not be paying for the cleanup?

They're kind of stating the obvious, aren't they?

Making them clean up their own mess??

What a Socialist

Doesn't he know that Government is supposed to support Big Business??

I'm not Yurt and that part of your statement is exceedingly obvious. I read it as a simple statement of pointing out a fact. To be perfectly honest if Bush was the current president how many here (and across the nation) would be screaming for his head on a platter right now?

On the very day the real extent of the damage was brought to light?

Given the fact that he is devoting massive national resources to the issue ASAP?

I'd say no-one, except a few crazy extremists.

The difference between this and New Orleans is that everyone seemed to know there was a problem and a disaster there, except BUSH and his people.

Instead Bush was hosting a birthday party and having a good old time on vacation.

You know, it's interesting that people should be talking about Katrina in this thread.

And.........Katrina SHOULD be mentioned. Wanna know why? Because Katrina was a hurricane that was in the Gulf of Mexico, which incidentally, happens to be where the oil spill is now covering 100 square miles, and getting bigger each day since there are 5000 barrels of oil spilling into the gulf every day.

Now.......here's the scary part, and it's why I hope Obama throws EVERYTHING he can possibly think of at this situation to get it cleaned up as soon as humanly possible........

In the Northern Atlantic Ocean, a distinct hurricane season occurs from June 1 to November 30, sharply peaking from late August through September.[33] The statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is 10 September. The Northeast Pacific Ocean has a broader period of activity, but in a similar time frame to the Atlantic.[34] The Northwest Pacific sees tropical cyclones year-round, with a minimum in February and March and a peak in early September. In the North Indian basin, storms are most common from April to December, with peaks in May and November.[33] In the Southern Hemisphere, the tropical cyclone year begins on July 1 and runs all year round and encompasses the tropical cyclone seasons which run from November 1 until the end of April with peaks in mid-February to early March.[33][35]

Tropical cyclone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hurricane season is in one month. This oil spill is projected to keep going for 180 - 270 days, which would mean it would still be spilling oil the whole season.

Oil spills are bad, hurricanes are bad, but can you imagine a hurricane that whips up all the oil off of the surface, and then rains it down on the land?

Would make the Exxon Valdez look like a drip on your driveway.............

Scary, hunh?

That's what I'm talking about. Emotive, uninformed, misdeductive, partisan reaction. That is your perception of what was going on at that level, not fact based in knowledge. I'm not what anyone would call a Bush big fan but at least I try to be open, honest and fair. But I do recognize, as you so eloquently provided, partisan perception tends to 'color' the issue.
So no, I've been around long enough to see it from both sides, it wouldn't only be the fringe left going off the wall.
