Which Republican Was The Obama Camp Most Concerned About Running Against?

Huntsman was the most conservative of the candidates.

Do your research. No more Santorums or Ryans are acceptable.

Our GOP candidates of the future will look more like Huntsman than Santorum.

The past two GOP candidates have looked more like Huntsman than Santorum...and we've seen the results...two losses.

The problem with Huntsman is, he is mostly liberal.

Why vote for the liberal in a red suit when there is a liberal running in a blue suit?

For the record, IMO, we don't want a Santorum, or a Bush like candidate...

But if the GOP serves up another moderate, the DNC will only spike it in our face again for the hat-trick.

Hat trick? pewsh! Dems have already won the popular vote in 5 of the last six presidential elections and-----and in 2004 Ohio the votes didn't all get counted (maybe 6 of the last 6)

In the 2000 primaries and before, McCain earned the nickname Maverick but-----but after he got shellacked by Bush, McCain saw the future of the Republican party, and began toeing the bitter-ornery-pissy old man line in order to appeal to the Republican base, i.e. eventually, McCain made a 90° turn to the right, just as Romney did and became unelectable in this center-left country.

Constituencies that elect candidates that are willing to give up their core values for elective office get the government they deserve. As for McCain (and Romney too), he'll never win another election. Extreme rightwing politics have been

even in conservative AZ.

Poll: John McCain least popular U.S. Senator

Source: Associated Press
Updated May 24, 2012

John McCain is the least popular senator in the country, according to a new poll.

Just 36 percent of Arizona voters approve of the longtime Republican, while 56 percent disapprove, a Public Policy Polling survey found.
Those are the worst numbers the North Carolina-based organization has found in polling more than 90 sitting senators across all 50 states.

.

Republicans can no longer let the far right crazees and the soc con values skew the polls, the primaries, and the caucuses.

We cannot have a Palin or a Santorum, etc. We need a Huntsman-like candidate in 2016.

How can a Republican even begin to accuse anyone else of demonizing the oppostion. Their whole campaign was one of demonizing the President. No plans of their own, just "We have to make President Obama a one term President".

Romney's own comments, and those of some Senate candidates did more to demonize the GOP this cycle than anything that any Democrat said.

No matter who it was, the dems were going to demonize the opposition.
Looks like they're getting an early start on the potential opposition for the 2016 election.

They're already going after Rubio...Palinizing him early... the party of inclusion and cooperation as well as bipartisanship.

yup....and they also got the general out early, also.

demonizing and calling obama's policies a failure are two entirely different beasts, Rocks.

War on Women
War on the rich
War on corporations
etc.
That is demonizing

Now they're touting Hillary and crediting her for a cease fire that was just reported as being agreed to 24 hours ago, brokered by Morsi, but they where awaiting her arrival.

I always enjoy it when John is on a panel (MSNBC, CNN), he has tons of well thought messages and is a generally intelligent and eloquent guy. And he ignores the idiot Neocons.

I do not agree with his politics, but he would have won it for the GOP hands down. but, he probably would not have gotten behind the tax cuts deal.

If the GOP moves this direction they will be in power much more often.

If you put up people like the field that you presented this time, you will lose in 2016. Religious fruitloops and radical right wing nutcases just won't fly with most of the voters.

Untill the GOP ceases to be the party of willfull ignorance, they are going to have difficulties in winning national elections. Untill they cease the hate talk on gays, women, and minorities, they are not going to get votes from those people. Untill they stop pandering to the very wealthy at the expense of all of us on the factory floor, they will continue to see their base among working Americans erode.

Huntsman was the only candidate that was promoting policies, rather than demonizing everything that the President has had a hand in. He would have had a chance. However, the fruitloops in the GOP made sure that he never had a chance at the nomination. Should these same people determine the candidate in 2016, the result will be the same.

One additional note. The GOP and it's PACs spent $6.35 per vote this election. The Dems and their PACs spent $1.83. The days that you can simply throw money and TV adds at the electorate and win elections are gone. Rove and his PAC spent $390,000,000. And not one of the candidates they backed won.

It doesn't hurt when your the president and can tell the students that the interest on student loans will be forgiven, and an executive order for the dream act. If I didn't know any better, I would call that buying votes. :eusa_eh:

I stated several times on this board during the primary season that Huntsman would pose the greatest threat to Obama. He was the only sane GOP candidate - but he just wasn't crazy enough for NaziCons. It wasn't rocket science...

They'll get stomped even worse if they nominate huntsman types.

History is moving faster and faster. I was partially surprised there was even an election this year as much as I was surprised George W. Bush surrendered power when his final term was due. To speak of another election is extremely optimistic. Let's hope there is another presidential election.

One thing is clear, after the last Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance contributions and on health care reform, fascism is thoroughly entrenched in American politics. It is part of the culture now, it has been mainstreamed for those who identify themselves as both Republicans and Democrats. I can see it on this board. Republicans and Democrats agree on more and more issues, while the Libertarians and true progressives are at odds with them more often than not, and find themselves agreeing on core issues that are at the heart and soul for the very existence of the nation's soul.

It is only a matter of time before the Tea party folk will realize that their grass roots efforts were subverted by the corporatists of the Republican Party, and the real Progressives of the Democratic Party realize that the war mongering, food bioengineering, water polluting, credit manipulating corporatist Democrats have co-opted the grass roots progressives.

Once the Tea Party and Occupy come together to form a true Constitutionalist party to DEMAND the reinstatement of the original bill of rights, a REAL election might once again be possible. We shall see.
