Which GOP Candidate Would The Founders Support?...

Our Founding Fathers fully understood the tyranny of Big Government oppression. They actually experienced it first-hand. Today's America resembles King George's oppressive Monarchy. And it's only getting worse. Big Government is only getting bigger. It's very sad.

The founders had no problem with big government. If they did, they would have prohibited it in the Constitution. As it is, they preferred to allow future generations to have the size of government they required

They severely limited the scope of the central government. fool. They left to day affairs to the states.
They did include a way to change the Constitution, but intentionally made it very difficult.

so much ignorance in this thread...of course the answer is ron paul. The founders' ideology and concept of liberty guaranteed by the Constitution in the protection of the individual from the government is proof of this. The founders knew times would change, hence the amendment process that everyone seems to have forgotten about. If the founders truly were racist, sexist pigs, they would have said in the constitution explicity "Blacks and women do not exercise these rights." But, they didn't. Why? They were ahead of their time and knew the amendment process would take care of it...and guess what? It did. Read the federalist papers, read the Jefferson letters, read some primary sources,
(BUT DO IT IN CONTEXT!) especially you looney ass leftists.

The founding fathers believed in slavery. You are right, ron paul is pretty close to that. Good call.

I love these kind of stupid questions. Let's go dig up a few founders and ask them. How the hell is anybody supposed to know?

They did not limit the scope of government and never intended to dictate to future generations.

The Constitution was intentionally made vague enough so that you did not have to perpetually generate amendments too make government work

Once the Founders were educated on how the world has changed I don't believe they would support Ron Paul. But they would support Ron Paul before supporting Obama.

they also didn't think women or people without land would vote and said black people were 3/5 of a person...

and, your point?

haha over two years and you are still spouting the 3/5 thing like it was something that was meant to keep slaves down, when it was to prevent a southern majority in congress which would be pro-slave. So willfully ignorant you are.

Do you not read English? If they believed in slavery to last FOREVER in the United States why didn't they write that in the Constitution? Please explain this.

Interesting take from Brion McClanahan.

I am often asked in interviews if the founding generation would recognize the modern government in Washington, D.C. I always answer yes, they would. They would recognize tyranny, the usurpation of power by the executive branch, the trampling of civil liberties and the endless wars of a government bent on empire...All, that is, except Ron Paul.

"...tyranny, the usurpation of power by the executive branch, the trampling of civil liberties and the endless wars of a government bent on empire..."

1) There is no tyranny in America. We have what the founders and framers and the ratifiers left us --- a representative democracy.

-----------------

2) Just a few definitions of usurpation:

u·sur·pa·tion
   [yoo-ser-pey-shuhn, -zer-]
noun
1.
an act of usurping; wrongful or illegal encroachment, infringement, or seizure.
2.
illegal seizure and occupation of a throne.

::: usurpation legal definition of usurpation. usurpation synonyms by the Free Online Law Dictionary. :::

The illegal encroachment or assumption of the use of authority, power, or property properly belonging to another; the interruption or disturbance of an individual in his or her right or possession.

The term usurpation is also used in reference to the unlawful assumption or seizure of sovereign power, in derogation of the constitution and rights of the proper ruler.

Why in the world would they have written that into a constitution if that is what they believed? There are lots of things they believed that were not written into the Constitution we have.

Just because you choose an anonymous screen name of Liberty is gives no credibility to your claims to knowledge about the founders or the Constitution.

Hows that toilet training going have you finally learned how to drink from the bowl without wet the floor?

Liberty, the Constitution protected slavery. It took a Civil War and the 13th Amendment to end it.

Yeah, the Founders believed in the institution, with some exceptions.

They believed they were ahead of their time...the amendment process was there to end it when it was socially acceptable. My point is that IF they were blatantly racist they would have included a provision in the constitution barring the constitution from ever protecting those rights. The FACT that they did not do this shows they understood that ending slavry, and suffrage were coming down the pipe of the future and wanted the newly formed United States to be able to adapt via the amendment process when the people were ready for it.

Good point. Did they write anything in there with the word FOREVER? Huh, did they? Huh?

No, because they knew it would change in the future and that it would be good for their new country. Thanks for proving my point.

So they knew it would take a civil war to end slavery? They knew that many americans would die because they were "ahead of their time"? They were fucking racists who owned slaves. Period.

So one day to the next, they just knew it would change? No civil war, no lost of, wow, how many lives?

Don't put words in my mouth, fuck face. If you have a direct question then ask it. No, of course they didn't see a civil war, but the institution of slavery was ingrained. It was unfortunate and had nothing to do with them. Your logic is flawed.

If they didn't know the country would change, an amendment process would not be included with the Constitution. The Civil War could not be predicted, but I will tell you what, if the Constitution proposed freeing slaves, each of the 13 colonies would be separate countries. This was the best path to ensure a true Union. Learn history or go fuck yourself...because you are really making yourself look dumb.

You are making material up out of tattered cloth, Liberty, the same as with FDR in another thread.

If the Founders as a whole believed "suffrage were coming" readily in the future, the Founders would not have put in the 3/5ths clause, the fugitive slave clause, and then defended the institution like fury, and so forth. You sound as silly as Sarah and Michelle on this nonsense.

More than six hundred thousand Americans would not have died, the South economically and socially devastated, and the North transformed if the Founders thought slavery "was down the pipe of the future."

You are not thinking critically here, you are making stuff up.

Liberty, a historian does not act like a tenth grader when when appropriately guided. Drop the attitude.

You gave the game away with "each of the 13 colonies" would have become separate countries, because none of them would have agreed to a Constitution that would have enshrined the freeing of slaves.

You have to twist your philosophy to the facts, not the facts to your philosopy.
