I'm here.

I'm not in any group, not on any side, and believe what I want to, support what I like and condemn what I dislike.

Many people hate that and try to assign me to a group, but that is only because they are halfwits.

There are democrat conservatives?

My Mom and Dad were registered democrats that were socially conservative, my Dad has dumped the party and is now a registered republican.

I think the only reaon they were democrats was the union thing :cuckoo:

My sis was also a democrat, but switched to republican...and is now a conservative.

But there are no conservative democrats. "Socially conservative" just means socialist. Someone who leaves the dem party because they're conservative isn't the same as a "social conservative".

I am a liberal with a FEW right or conservative view points when it comes crime and punishment/gun control.

Social liberal, fiscal conservative.

When I took that political test, I was close to Ghandi.

wake up this morning and the dynamics have smoothed out a bit.... initiating timeline....

0 - 1 - 8 - 5 - 1 - 4 - 5, respectively, thats rightward indy's leading with a third of the action.

id venture to pigeon-hole the third partisans in with them in a red/blue world, but dare not editorialize any further.... but thats bout 54%... ok no further.

... for now.

50 comments, 24 votes. <--- wont editorialize that either. just the facts

I guess if I have to pick I'm a left-leaning independent overall, but the labels are way too simple. Of course labels always are!

My father did the same, and so did I. Democrats in the 60s were more "conservative" than today's rightwingers. Leftwingnuts will tell you the party changed with Civil Rights, but having been around and watched, it started with George McGovern and the mass exodus followed Carter's little debacle.

Even my grandfather, staunch Democrat, union-til-the-day-he-died, Roosevelt Dem refused to vote for McGovern and for a Carter second run.

Heh...my English Setter barks viciously whenever anyone says the name "George McGovern". It just happened that way. Of course I never discouraged it, either. It's pretty funny.

He's a good dog.

i made it so ya got to pick, or not at all. thats life!

i think it lends to the inevitabilities of Decision Day, when the most important decision has just two real labels to support.

I know anarchists...I work with anarchists...I party with anarchists.

Trust me, you're neither "conservative" (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean anymore), nor an anarchist.

I can make categories for "none of the above" and "poseur" if that helps.

A conservative is suppose to be some one that holds to social traditions and uphold them.

Conservativism of today is something entirely different.

wtf? i remember when conservatism had something to do with the impact of government on the private sector through tax/fiscal policy and competition in the marketplace/share of the national product.

talk about entirely different.

If you are talking about low taxes and encouraging competition in the marketplace, that is what you call a Capitalists.

The belief in sound fiscal policy for the Government (such as a balanced budget to revenue outstripping spending) is refered to as Fiscal conservatism--mainly because this is the "tried and true method" of keeping a nation finances solvent.

By the way--a Fiscal Conservative might raise taxes. A capitalists always argues for tax cuts regardless of the situation.
