Life and death issues are NO place for profits in a decent human world.

In your world a company should potentially go as far as putting itself out of business if it means some people will die otherwise.

You have to understand that it just doesn't work that way. As compassionate as you want to be to fellow human beings, companies can not forgo profits to their detriment just because people get sick and die.

This nation lives about as unhealthy as it ever has. We do very little as a whole to try and be more healthy, but you expect companies who's very existence depends on caring for these people, to just throw profits away out of...what...the kindness of their hearts?

No. Insurance companies do not need to exist for people to get care. Unfortunately, without them, the cost would be prohibitive to alot of people. Thankfully insurance companies do exist and they assist people in allowing people who otherwise couldnt afford the services, to get services.

My grandmother passed away at 102. Shortly before her death, she was put in an ambulance and driven from San Mateo Co through San Francisco and into Marin for an X-Ray. The bill to medicare was enormous, over $2,000 dollars. Within one mile of the Assisted Living housing where she was cared for was a major hospital.

I would also add that I reject that someone has to forgo profits to be compassionate. One can completely be compassionate while making money. They are not mutually exclusive as TM would like others to believe.

What good is the health insurance company to the rest of the people it insures if it puts itself out of business by covering everyone who was already sick and dying and was GUARANTEED to cost them dearly in premiums?

With only a 4% profit margin, one of the absolute lowest in the entire business world, they would all go belly up if they were to cover every sick and dying person.
