When Santorum tanks, who will the GOP turn to?

Looks more and more like a brokered GOP convention.

This may be the first thing we've ever agreed on. :eusa_shhh:

Santorum has the best chance of winning out right, IMO.

Romney wins the RINO's but splits the fiscal conservatives with Gingrich and Paul.

Gingrich gets a share of the fiscal conservatives and Corners the Reagan-era Republicans...plus a very few social conservatives.

Paul gets a share of the fiscal conservatives and all the Libertarians.

Santorum gets nearly all the social conservatives, plus some fiscal conservatives.

That gives Santorum a clear advantage. It's a three legged stool split four ways. Santorum's ability to claim one leg as his alone gives him a leg up (pun intended) on his opponents.

Will they try to prop Romney up with a strong VP to help make him more palatable - or will they bring in a new face? Either way, they've got a big problem.

Romney is the conservative in the race, you ask the reason that people don't like him, it's because he is mormon. They won't admit that, but after studying everything, and seeing how these talking heads do everything to ignore his record I have concluded the only reason would be that they are bigots and biased against Mormons.

I include Palin, Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin in that. Why you ask? Because it is very clear after reading Romney's record that he is a conservative, always has been one, governed as one, lives his life as one, worked his business as one, he walks and talks as one.

That's the only conclusion I can come to, as they can not be so stupid as to not know of his awesome record as a governor and a businessman.

Somehow I forgot to add the third leg to this post, the Defense Hawks.

That leg is split between Santorum, Gingrich, with a few going to Romney...but Santorum receiving the lion's share.

As long as Gingrich and Paul hang in the race, Santorum has the best shot at the nomination.

Oh, I freely admit the reason I don't like him is that he belongs to evil LDS cult.

And that he's a liberal trying to pretend to be a conservative.

And that he's a corporate bloodsucker who's made himself rich screwing working Joes.

and he's all around a scumbag who will say anything. Sorry, I just have more respect for people who state why they think a thing than someone telling me what he thinks I want to hear.

He'll get the nomination because the people who really run the GOP, the Corporate Bloodsuckers, will keep shoving him down our throats. And then they will wonder why many of us will vote third party, stay home or vote for Obama out of spite in November.

First, why do you respond to your own posts? There's an edit feature if there is something you want to add.

Second- if his record as governor is so awesome, why is he not talking about that? He's been avoiding talking about it, and given it included making Mass the first state to legalize gay marriage and impose socialized medicine, you can kind of understand why he DOESN'T want to talk about it. His state was 47th in job growth, he was the 48th in a listing of popularity of governors, and trial polls had him trailing Democrats by double digits in 2006, which is why he didn't run again.

Third- I'm perfectly aware of his business record. Right after his religion, it's the main reason I'm against him. He's someone who has destroyed middle class jobs in order to make rich douchebags obscene amounts of money. It's ultimately going to destroy the GOP. A middle class is the best firewall between America and European style socialism.

The 2020 GOP Candidate?

lol...Republicans steer away from Ron Paul like he is the Black Plague.

It is just more validation that Paul is doing something right when he makes establishment republicans allergic to him.

Or that Ron Paul is just batshit crazy...

Or that his support comes from Obama voters. I've only got anecdotal evidence, but 30% of the Ron Paul supporters I surveyed in 2008 voted for Obama in the general.

the good thing is it doesnt matter, none of them can win an election now

It's amazing that you believe this. But then again you probably think today's 8% unemployment is good while criticizing 2004's 6% unemployment as a disaster. Did you think a $400 Billion deficit under Bush was irresponsible too?

Does anyone seriously doubt that Santorum "will" tank? I have no doubts!

I don't know if he'll "tank".

I think he might end up coming in second, will get a speaking role at the convention, and depending how well he does, might be offered the Veep Slot by Romney in order to paper over schisms in the party.

The establishment does seem to have its heart set on Romney, and Romney has the resources to go the distance. He's also disliked by about 60% of the party, who've picked Santorum for no other reason than he's the only viable alternative left.

Of course, coming in second could be a boon to Santorum. Romney gets the nomination, Obama slaughters him easily, but in 2016, the Democrats have no bench, and Santorum is "Next in Line". By 2016, people will be pretty sick of the Democrats and thinking 7% unemployment for 8 years is a good thing.

All the talking heads on radio today were saying that the GOP is scrambling for somebody else to run. The consensus seemed to be they want Jeb Bush to stand up...

When Santorum tanks, who will the GOP turn to?

I think they are out of options. They have no Reagan in the shadows. They have noone that comes close. They are a desparate party lacking desperation.
