when is a cop allowed to punch a suspect? (I am on the cops side this time)

I'm with you. White cops should never be sent into minority neighborhoods. No matter what happens it's always gonna be the white cops fault. just ask obie wan knowknothing.
Interestingly, as the effects of racial discrimination in employment relaxed after WW-II and the New York City Police Department began hiring Blacks, virtually all Black officers were assigned to the Harlem and Bedford Stuyvestant neighborhoods -- not for discriminatory reasons but because it was believed the Black cops would relate better to the residents. However, in the early 1960s NYC's Mayor Wagner was petitioned by Black community leaders to get the Black cops out of Harlem and Bed Stuy because they were significantly more brutal and oppressive than the White cops were.

With that in mind I wonder how a Black cop would have treated that assaultively belligerent girl. My guess is he would have beat the shit out of her, not just popped her in the jaw. Black men do not tolerate any abuse at all from women! They are very sensitive about their manhood.

We need to put white cops on white beats and black cops on black beats, chinese on chinese and so on and so forth. if it accomplishes nothing else it will end accusations of racism.

So.......... segregation is the answer to racism?

Is that what you call it? Playing?

Give me your best shot

WTF do you know? You're the one who goes on about how name-calling only reveals the namecallers stupidity.

Tsk, tsk. Looks like someone's losing their cool.

Can't you address the facts? Is name calling all you have? Up until now, I thought you could handle yourself, what with all your high-sounding blather about name-calling and not letting others get to you because you KNOW who you are and what you've done. You fooled me. I guess you only know how to talk the talk

Go hide in the corner, huh?

I'll get to you when I can.

IOW, you got nothing
Really, fuckup?

Let's dance. Me n you.

so it would seem. You know as well as I do the black communities view white cops as racists. so don't give em racist cops, give em black cops. wonder who obie wan would have picked in a fight against his professor buddy and a black cop? that's called being between "barack and a hard place.":lol::lol:

See, I'm against segregation, just as I am against affirmative action. Why do we as a society continue to tell blacks that it's ok to use your blackness as an excuse for bad behavior?

Hey blacks, grow up and realize you have to live and deal with the rest of society and function at OUR level and can't cry racism every time you get busted out for bad behavior.

The cops tactics were clearly flawed. Police are only authorized to use necessary force to restrain. Of course each situation is weighed separately. This needs some more time with the hand to hand instructor.

No he doesn't , he just needs to be told next time hit em with the pepper spray.

Pepper spray is a pain in the ass. If the wind is blowing at all, then you get as much on you as you do the assailant. This guy lost his cool and forgot his training.
I disagree. It seems evident to me that he had no training. Clearly, he never learned his escort locks or takedowns.

In fairness, how do you train for being attacked by a teenage girl. Anything this dude did was going to come across as overkill.

He did fuck up in not calling for back up, and he SHOULD have pepper sprayed her, but this isn't something that anyone should be suspended for or that anyone else should make money off of.

Same as you train for anything else. She lays her hand on you, you put an arm bar on her, into a wrist lock, then you cuff her ass. All moves that would be acceptable and defensible. A punch in the face, however, just looks unprofessional.

It does. He was outnumbered though. At any time that mob could have rushed him. They were certainly instigating before the smackdown. He should indeed have called for back up. Or did he have a tazer? A tazer would have been more appropriate.

The same way you train to escort any resiting person with minimal injury dealt. That's the entire point of the escort locks and takedows they're supposed to learn at the academy.

What I'm saying is that ANY of those method would have looked like overkill on a 19 y/o girl. To me anyway. I guess I can't wrap my mind around a 19 y/o having the nerve and sheer disrespect for the law to do such a thing. Intellectually I know they should just be treated like another criminal when they do so, but I still think of them as a child.

If he can't even execute a simple takedown, I doubt he could operate a taser.

Since no one is defending the assailant, and since some are offering precise suggestions on what would have been a more appropriate response, I find that to be a rather odd conclusion seeing as how it's directly contradicted by the posts in this thread.

Around here, the cops know their locks and takedowns- at least the ones I've managed to piss off. Only once have they gone overboard, and that was a fucking C.O. (He ended up in some shit over his conduct).

On the street, just turn around, put your hands behind your back, and get n the damned car. You and your attorney can then argue your case with getting your ass beat and finding yourself charged with resisting arrest and assault on an officer.

Think, people.

If a chicken wing or a wrist-lock seems like overkill to you, the you're in a world of trouble if you're ever assaulted.

You hold it by the part with the black and yellow lines, right?

That proves just how stupid you are. You don't have to defend the girl to claim the cops reaction was overkill. We're debating exactly whether it was overkill or not, some think it was , some don't. Some would have called pepper spraying her overkill, and maybe it would have been, I can assure you it would have been more painful than that "punch" to the mouth. Some are saying he should have tazered her. That could have killed her, so maybe THAT is overkill.

It has nothing to do with defending the girl.
