His "bone spurs" were real, and if you ever had them or saw someone with them, you would understand. My wife suffered for about two years with them and they just magically disappeared on their own. Those "bone spurs" may kept him from being one of the last persons drafted during the Vietnam era when we were already drawing down our forces in Vietnam, so there was only a small likelihood that he would have ever been sent. Had he been drafted, the war would have likely been over before he even had a chance to serve there.

Courtesy is one of the hallmarks of diplomacy, wouldn't you say?
