In that small context, you would be correct. However, the emotional aspect should be separated from the investigation. In other words, the authorities should pursue the evidence and run their case based ONLY on evidence.
That is proper juris prudence.
If the police want a prosecution, they must gather enough evidence so that the prosecution can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime has been committed.
