What's the Difference between Socialists and Communists?

Still no definitions of communism or socialism. A few cliches, but not even an attempt at an answer. All those American billions spent, lives lost, people maimed and the best we can come up with is something like, communism is an evil empire.

No, I doubt pure communism would work because it denies human nature.

And, we don't know if it would always turn into a dictatorship because we didn't give it time to develop in democratic Chile.
Uh huh. Never heard that before. "Communism never worked because the US always interfered!!"

A brief history lesson for the uninformed:

Salvador Allende : Biography

Allende was a socialist (social democrat). Great job, Pubbies. A catastrophe for Chile.

Some of us have spent half our lives worrying about a communist takeover. Since then we've shifted to worrying about Islam. Still, the corporations have done business with both of them on a regular basis for decades. We've blockaded Cuba for five decades partly because she's communist, yet we've de-industrialized our country so China could build up and become pretty soon the world's industrial giant, all for profit and cheap goods. What difference is it what's the difference between commies and socialists? Big business will make their profits no matter what with the help of our politicians from both parties.

Allende's decide to take action to redistribute wealth and land in Chile. Wage increases of around 40 per cent were introduced. At the same time companies were not allowed to increase prices. The copper industry was nationalized. So also were the banks.

:lmao: Typical Progressive. Utterly clueless about the economy.

Do you think raising wages without raising prices is sustainable? Hint: It's not.

He was going to fuck up even further an already fucked-up country.

For almost 100 years the American people have lived in dread of communism, have spent billions of dollars, thousands of lives to fight communism, and in fact, are still living in a cold war economic era, trying to figure it out, before the cliff. Politicians have used it to gain votes, spend money, scare us, yet no one seems to know what communism really is. First, came the trivial definitions, then a few real attempts, but the bottom line seems to be that none of us really seem to know. Is communism just a label to raise the fear level, or is it real?
Considering that Communism ALWAYS turns into a dictatorship, there is no reason to believe that "pure" Communism could ever work.

Period.

Yep, the right in the US had Chile's elected president, Allende, taken down.

Socialism looks like this....

Wrong. The people of Chile took him down themselves because he was quickly turning Chile into a Soviet client state. Allende was a traitor to his people. Good riddance.

Bullshit -
The US then installed Pinochet, a right wing war criminal.

You obviously don't have a clue about what went down in Chile. The Allende regime with overrun with Cuban "advisors." That is, it was over run with Cuban spies. virtually the entire economy came to a halt under Allende and the army decide it was time to do something about it. the only part the U.S government played is to support a few opposition newspapers during the election.

Pinochet's regime was responsible for various human rights abuses during its reign including murder and torture of political opponents. According to a government commission report that included testimony from more than 30,000 people, Pinochet's government killed at least 3,197 people and tortured about 29,000. Two-thirds of the cases listed in the report happened in 1973.[96]
Professor Clive Foss, in The Tyrants: 2500 Years of Absolute Power and Corruption (Quercus Publishing 2006), estimates that 1,500–2,000 Chileans were killed or disappeared during the Pinochet regime. In October 1979, the New York Times reported that Amnesty International had documented the disappearance of approximately 1,500 Chileans since 1973.[97] Among the killed and disappeared during the military regime were at least 663 Marxist MIR guerrillas.[98] The Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front, however, has stated that only 49 FPMR guerrillas were killed but hundreds detained and tortured.[99] According to a study in Latin American Perspectives,[100] at least 200,000 Chileans (about 2% of Chile's 1973 population) were forced to go into exile. Additionally, hundreds of thousands left the country in the wake of the economic crises that followed the military coup during the 1970s and 1980s.[100] Some of the key individuals who fled because of political persecution were followed in their exile by the DINA secret police, in the framework of Operation Condor, which linked South American military dictatorships together against political opponents.

You can try to re-write history if you like, but it doesn't wash:

Pinochet's government was over run with American "advisors." Should it have been overthrown too?
