So you don't think having our Navy patrolling the seas prevents blockades or even pirates. Hmmm, we have pirates off Somalia but of course if the US Navy left Asia and Europe, they wouldn't eventually get into those sea lanes in your little head.

The Air Force, Army and Marines also maintain free trade routes by being all over the world on bases ready to kick someone's ass if they invade another country or blockade routes.

Heck, the US Coast Guard protects our waterways and is even over in the Gulf protecting oil tankers. Oil......must not be important.

As for North Korea not nuking someone, they are holding the bomb as blackmail for free goodies from us....which they get. They have also made money selling that technology to Iran. The asian Elivs could nuke Japan on his death bed if he likes, but of course you think he is sane because he must be like you.

....but when he ignores the US role around the world in maintaining world peace and helping maintain FREE markets for the world, then he is toast.

As the Commander in Chief he can set DoD policy on what we will do with the military.Congress just funds the operations, but the POTUS tells the DoD how to execute those operations.

Wrong. As Ron Paul has pointed out, The President goes to Congress and asks THEM to declare war. It's in the Constitution but you're so used to Presidents disregarding it (Clinton, Obama) that you've forgotten about it.

If Ron Paul says we won't stop Iran from getting a nuke like he's said, well then Iran will be nuking Israel and probably us in the near future.

Just like they said about N. Korea. Now that N. Korea has nukes tell us, how many countries have they nuked?

South Korea is a major trading partner and if North Korea was able to steal their technology, people and land via invasion....you'd have a bigger mess on your hands in Asia. Maybe we don't want a bigger nuclear power in North Korea....what a concept.

Japan would be GONE within a year if NK took over SK.

Why would the North invade the South when they operate a joint Manufacturing Facility in North Korea? Or is that the "free markets" that you said the Military was to be protecting?

Our military budget is just shy of half of the worlds military spending. We spend six times that of our next nearest competitor (China). This is totally unnecessary to protect ourselves. According to the defenders of this 'strategy', it's required to 'secure our national interests' - but what does that really mean?

Uh, Ron Paul said he will slash the DoD budget which pretty much make it a pre-WWII military geared to protect our borders......until it is too late. We got lucky in WWII that Hitler made serious tactical mistakes with Russia, thus lost WWII.

Most of us learned our lesson that a forward projected military prevents MASSIVE wars that endanger the US and its allies. Pull back the US and you will see a massive war or two in Asia, the middle east and Europe.

But of course a massive war in Asia or Europe where our trading partners are invaded won't do squat to your lifestyle here....
