What would you ask any Senator if you could question them face to face?

Yes, I did. The cost of the war was devastating. Congress passed a law giving them the power to levy taxes to provide defense and warfare for the country. It was the first income tax levied in our country.

That's one hell of a case of foresight.

Ha, I see what you mean. What I meant was that Article I gives them the power, but it was not exercised until the Civil War.

Article 1, Section 8 doesn't give them the authority to tax income. They did it during the Civil War but it wasn't Constitutional until 1913 and the passing of the 16th amendment.

I'd ask Dodd and Lieberman why they think fascism is a better solution to our ills than freedom? Why they think Keynesian theories will work despite failing horribly through the Bush II years?

Why forcing us to accept spending packages designed to make us poorer, bailouts, wars, welfare, socialism, government, special interests is better than letting people be free? It's those policies that have brought us to this point.

Again the trade imbalance exist almost exculsively with China and Japan who are gaming the system. The problem isn't free trade, it is China and Japan and a gutless administration which be it Republican or Democratic hasn't the balls to either drag this asshats before the appropriate authorities to address thier chicanery or to simply do the usual quid pro quo after setting out the case before said authorities.

My senators are Imhofe and Coburn over all I am quite pleased with their peformance. The chief question I would ask them is how do you manage to talk to your more idiotic leftist colleagues on a daily basis without either A. tearing your hair out, or B. trying to slap some since into the idiots. ?

What would be your direct suggestions in order to cover immediate needs?

I mean if we can direct these guys in the right direction it helps. We need to be specific so they can be specific when they go into their meetings.

How?

Why?

What will/can it accomplish?

How?

Have a real discussion about what NEEDS to be in this bill to address immediate needs. Have a line by line discussion about, given the situation we are in right now and the purpose of this bill, whether this line of spending, worthy as it may be, needs to be in THIS bill NOW. I have actually read some of this bill and just as an example, I don't know why it has been labeled a priority that NASA needs a few billion dollars to conduct climate research. In reading through about 10 pages I found maybe two spending items that would clearly create jobs. One of them wasn't even private sector jobs (more funding to hire more police). This bill reads more like an omnibus spending bill than anything that reflects urgency in reviving the economy.

Why?

Because someday the chickens will come home to roost. Our debt has soard in the last 8 years. Bush is to blame and as much as libs like to point that out they would also have to admit that Obama will most likely just keep tacking on to that, nevermind reversing the trend.

What would like it to accomplish?

Get is back to robust economy of course. Improve the value of the dollar. If you think we have an inflation problem, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
I agree with you on that last line there. I am not familar with the "omnibus spending bill" I need to keep whatever it is I say as simple as possible. A old hand taught me that years ago. He said, "If you really want to get their attention address them as if you were speaking to a kindergarten class."

I think a lot of Americans would like to do exactly that. I would like nothing more than to walk into congress and shake some of them till they finally get it. Seriously go read some of the stuff in there and tell me that given this economic climate and what we were told this bill's purpose was, that those things need to be in there. I call it an omnibus spending bill because THAT type of bill is something passed by legislators that just has a bunch of spending projects in it, it has no specific purpose. Why exactly are we saving Pelosi's god damn mouse in this bill? And Already we have Obama telling us today we shouldn't expect much from this bill. He's already trying to cover his ass when it fails.

How do you reverse that trend without starving the average people out in the interim? Think on that one.

Simple, you vote new people into office. The Pelosi's, the Kennedy's, the Reid's. the Coleman's, the McCain's, the carrer politicians, they have to go.

I would ask mine why they can't seem to see that continuing to allow unchecked illegal immigration ( including allowing "birthright citizenship" ) is adding to the severity of almost EVERY problem we have in this nation.

Unemployment

Over- crowded schools

Crime and over-crowded prisions

Expanding entitlement programs

Massive medical debt

We live in a fairly rural area here so the over crowded schools and prisons are not as much a problem as the unemployment. I can see where it is a more of a problem in the more largely populated areas though.

Unemployment even in rural areas can also lead to those over population prison problems though.

I'm at odds with just cutting the entitlement programs because if you do not have jobs you need something to replace an income or you add to the prisons/crime. That has to be something balanced out in any society. We are suffering some pretty big imbalances overall and the question is how to solve that problem.

Massive medical debt has been largely increased with insurance programs.

Our personal doctor is the kind that accepts chickens and eggs. An emergency though and we could be SOL. Rod cut the end of his finger the other day to the bone with the chain saw. I played doctor. I'm sure it saved at least a thousand bucks or more we don't have.

I don't know if it's in there or not, but there is the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Our prison system has a MAJOR overcrowding problem. It is why so many criminals serve such short sentence or why there sentences are so short in the first place. there simply isn't any place to put them or they get released to make room for more they don't have room for. I imagine we could put an awful lot more people to work by building a few more prisons.

This problem can be solved on the free market. Government involvement in health care, while sounding nice have reduced costs, will most likely make our system worse simply because our government does very little well. When we actually need health care we depend on our system to be responsive and efficient, I don't think anyone can make the argument that our government is either of those things. I'll have to listen to the radio program i was listening to last week that had some ideas and the history of how we got here, but there are options outside of the current system and government controlling the system.

I would ask them if 'we the people' will be forced to convene a Constitutional Congress to get term limits enacted for Senators and Representative.
I like that one and it's not a bad idea if they don't do something.

This fleecing of the American public has all gone on way to long.
