If everyone was honest. I'm doing a thought exercise and I figured I'd see what everyone else thinks. I think im missing some areas.

It would look like Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.

I'm not really that sure of that. I mean why does being honest and having integrity have to make you look cheesy and childlike? I don't see that it does.

It would be a much better place.

When you refuse lies your life is completely simplified.

All people would be happier and you would know who you wanted to associate with rigth away.

Some people are assholes and you would be able to spot them right off.

They would state their real motivations with their every word.

What! No moral relativism???

What a dull place this would be without our liberal friends.

See, I don't think it would be that dull at all. I think it would be invigorating, refreshing. I think we would see amazing progress in commerce, science, philosophy, art, music, etc. Everyone in the world would have food with tons to spare.

Of course, living such a life isn't easy. I am just trying to get a clear vision of what the world would be like.

It depends on how you define "honest."

I define honest as such:

1 a : free from fraud or deception : legitimate, truthful <an honest plea> b : genuine, real <making honest stops at stop signs — Christian Science Monitor> c : humble, plain <good honest food>
2 a : reputable, respectable <honest decent people> b chiefly British : good, worthy
3 : creditable, praiseworthy <an honest day's work>
4 a : marked by integrity b : marked by free, forthright, and sincere expression : frank <an honest appraisal> c : innocent, simple

With everyone honest, politics would pretty much evaporate away.
Why would we need laywers?
Most of our laws would be unnecessary.
security services and locks would be a thing of the past.
We would need very few jails, but perhaps more mental health facilities.

In summary the world would be a much better place.

And how many people refuse lies in all aspects of their life? I think few people do. Though I think the goal is to become as honest as you can and not necessary conclude that you aren't lying even to yourself on some things.

I think there would still be need for lawyers in some areas. Drafting Contracts, for example. But criminal attorneys would be much less needed. So would police officers.

I am curious, why more mental health facilities?

All of you guys who want complete honesty in the world please consider how fucking miserable your life would be if you were honest when a girl asked you

"Does this make me look fat?"

That is why more mental health facilities would be needed.
You would be honest and realize that was not a good thing to do.

If the whole world was honest,

- We could do away with 50% of the lawyers
- We wouldn't need anywhere near as many law enforcement personnel
- We would still need armies because 'honest' does not always translate to good intentions.
- Somebody else would in the White House and occupying most of the seats Congress.
- A lot more deals could be completed with a hand shake
- It would be a whole lot tougher to sell ponzi schemes to people
- Advertising would look a lot different than it does
- A lot of USMB conversations would be more interesting.

Sure, as long as that "someone" isn't me.

If she was being honest, she wouldn't have to ask that;)
