What Would The US Look Like if the South won?

I think slavery would have lasted until the 1880s with slaves being given some second class rights much worse than Jim Crow. Blacks would be given the vote sometime after WWII based on their service in the war.

At most the south would have left the US with a few additional States.

Harry Turtledove gives an interesting "alt history" of this situation, called Timeline 191. The point of divergence was the battle of Antitam. In reality The Union had Lee's orders which allowed them a victory. In Turtledove's timeline the Union never finds the orders and gets crushed.

The concept will NEVER be made into a TV mini-series in our current climate.

That was more sci-fi than the Southern Victory series, fun it's own sort of weird way.

The South could never "win" and nobody including former Union officer Robert E. Lee envisioned the South "winning the war". The South merely wanted the Lincoln government to agree to secession.

That is the idea behind the HBO series
The South won enough battles to get the north to recognize their sovereignty

Which is why the South could not be allowed to win; we have a Second Amendment.

Thus, Only well regulated militia of the United States may not be Infringed when keeping and bearing Arms for their State or the Union.

Regardless of All of the other ones.

The South should have "harassed the Judicature" for Eminent Domain.

Probably 2 different Countries, with the North being more successful as its view in the war was more enlightened.

They would have become South Africa with blacks having some basic rights but little freedom
I think many blacks would escape to the North and there would be no fugitive slave laws

It would have taken decades but the South would eventually have been forced by the rest of the world to end slavery. There would have been Jim Crow for decades but eventually Blacks would be granted full rights, just as they were in SA. At that point the agrarian South would be over and done. Whites would likely have fled, leaving a poverty stricken Black population. The North would be vastly stronger and more wealthy but no where near what it is today. We may even have lost WWII.

The North was just as racist as the South, it just wasn't so institutionalized. There would have been a desire to keep Blacks out of the North so they may well have been returned or sent to Canada.
