What Would A Free Market For Health Care Look Like?

Healthcare is a human right. Every American is supposed to pay into it. That's how it should be and goes with healthcare as a right. Paying into the system means you get to use it, too.

Show me PROOF of where healthcare is a human right!

Once you are born, the only human right there is is to DIE!

The human right is life and it is essential every person have healthcare. It's essential for the economy and national security. Healthcare as a right is humane and necessary for the advancement of this nation.

The main thing is to have state control over all the necessities of life.

The main thing is that America needs a mixture, in my opinion. Having either total capitalism or total socialism would be disastrous for our country. The socialized elements have helped contribute positively to our nation.

The insurance companies have done well, that's for sure.

No they have not. They raise premiums at a faster rate, faster than before Obamacare was elected. They drop people for pre-existing conditions and we cannot take the moral high ground if we do not guarantee healthcare to all. We most certainly are not a humane nation if we do not do that.

I want America to do well, and that includes healthcare. There is no conspiracy. There is no bias. Insurance companies must be done away with.

You're too stupid to be humane.

We're done.

You are claiming that, from the moment you were born, I AM SUPPOSED TO PAY FOR YOUR HEALTHCARE?

Where the hell does that come from?
And where is it in the constitution?

I would say the current mixture is disastrous.

You currently have a government with Democrats and Republicans in Congress, the White House, and in the courts. Every time a Republican says, proposes, or does something, democrats bitch and vice versa. One party favors the middle class and not always logically like with the Durbin Amendment. The other party favors rich corporations and free markets.

The problem with trying to "free market" everything is that essential services suffer. We have the worst education system, healthcare system, and workplace benefits in the world... But people have no choice but to work, go to the doctor to take care of health problems, and educate themselves to get a better job and to evolve the country.

  • Americans hardly take any vacation time because they'll be replaced or their boss will complain about it.
  • Americans drown themselves in college debt, even when attending a state run college.
  • Americans pay high premiums and have high deductibles for mediocre health coverage, at least for those who work.
  • Weak regulations would allow for an unhealthy environment due to republican views on emissions, etc.
We're probably one of the most unhealthy countries in the world because of the free market.

The problem with socialism is that the cost of living is too high here and also the taxes are too high, so there's backlash to tax more. At some point the government may run out of other people's money, creating a catastrophe. The middle class would then form unions and become lazy and entitled to have a job despite not being productive workers, and then there's no incentive to better yourself.

  • Americans are already taxed around 25% of their income for federal and state income taxes (on average).
  • Americans are tired of working while a certain percentage just collect the benefits paid for by taxes.
  • Prices would be higher under complete socialism (because of additional taxes and regulations).
  • You would be less free because the police would nab you for doing 72 in a 70 to extra tax revenue for the state.
  • Americans are tired of paying an additional 8% or so in sales tax in addition to income tax.

What would a free market for healthcare look like? Like the auto insurance market. Or like it was in the 1959s, before the invention of the employer sponsored group care. Everything eventually gets to an age when it is not insurability because it breaks down with a 100 % chance. And insurance models are games of chances, not definites.

A very good question. And the following seems to make a whole lot of sense:

Why is it that trial lawyer ads are everywhere, while the doctor ads are nowhere to be found? The short answer is: we have a free market in the resolution of tort claims, but we have completely suppressed the market for medical care.
