What will Cordray be able to do legally?

Funny how he only " leads" when he's running for Prez.

His record sucks so he's gonna make it about Congress?? If he were a true leader he would lead by working with congress. Reagan and Clinton were both leaders. They worked very well with Congress.

Barry? Abject fail.

Whether obama can actually exert the dictatorial powers he is assuming is another story. There is a legal challenge to his unconstitutional power grab AND, there is no funding yet for the agency or Cordray. Congress has never approved such funding.

obama's leadership is nothing more than the same kind of leadership exercised by Saddam Hussein, Moamar Gaddafi or Hugo Chavez. Only a liberal would find this long overdue.

I agree....President Obama should have seen what he was dealing with years ago and shown more leadership. Better late than never

Now we see the Obama we will get for the second term. An Obama who will allow Congress to do it's job and step in and provide leadership when Congress insists on petty bickering

Republicans are free to try to tie things up further in the court systems and President Obama is free to go to the public and highlight how hopeless Congress has become

If the American people prefer that we allow Congress to do nothing they are free to vote Obama out of office for overstepping his authority. I don't think they will

Oooooh. Ominous situation, ain't it?

Well, thats what you get when you recess appoint someone when there is no recess.

Republicans are, once again, playing games.

Scott Brown Backs Obama Recess Appointment Of Consumer Finance Watchdog Richard Cordray

To stop him from using the constitutional option of a recess appointment while the Senate was adjourned, they've [Republicans] been holding "pro forma" sessions where no business is done, but the chamber is technically working.

Oh well. You want to play, GOP, let's play. A recess appointment is what you get when you refuse to even let a nominee get an up or down vote. That's right. The Senate GOP won't even allow Cordray an up or down vote. It doesn't really matter who gets nominated. Republicans jut don't want the agency to exist. No wonder Congress is so unpopular. Nominees to agencies that were created and signed into law are left on the sidelines because one side hates the POTUS.
The GOP just doesn't want the socialist dimwits to put another idiot in charge of another idiot position.

Obama is setting the tone for his second term

If Congress will not do anything, he will move forward without them. If Congressional Republicans want to take it to the courts......go ahead

Obama will take it to the people as yet another example of an obstructionist congress

In the long run, let's see who wins

The constitution or corruption?

Democrats are going with corruption.

We shall see

Obama has made it clear that he is done with Congressional bickering. So have the American people. If congress will not act.....Obama will

It's called leadership and it's long overdue

If he doesnt like the constitution he should resign.

Suicide for being a complete low life would be preferred.

If obama is setting the tone for his second term, YESSSSSS. It's a made for perfection republican campaign issue.

This is what he will do with four more years. Of course, by the end of four more years, Their Excellencies won't have to worry about elections anymore.

Better yet...vote him out

If the American people do not like how Obama is treating Congress they can vote him out in 2012

I bet Obama would love for Republicans to make it a campaign issue. That is why republicans are playing into his hands

That appears to be the plan. But I have taken the position of this justice dept on following the law.

When and where I choose.

Its easy to blame Congress for ones shortcomings.

Of course Congress in tying things up. Thats what they do without a true leader.

Barry knew exactly what he was getting. The fight over HC told him that. He pretty much told the Reps he won so STFU.

The Rep who runs against him just needs to ask the American people if they like the direction Barry's taking the country.

Wonder how that will poll?

Oh, dear, it looks like some people don't understand what a recess is. The Senate officially voted on going into recess from December 17 until January 23. Tha mean they are currently in recess. That a few senators come in every few days and wander around playing pro-forma does not mean that the recess has ended.

The Senate is in recess. The appointment will stand.

This thread is not about whether the Senate was in recess.

It is about the portion of the Dodd-Frank law which says that the director must be confirmed by the Senate in order to have the special powers Dodd-Frank intended for the CFPB.

Supposing that Obama has legitimately appointed him, he can sit in the director's chair, but what can he legally do there? Can he make legal regulations for mortgage brokers, payday lenders, etc. to follow?

There are a lot of threads about the recess nature of the appointment. This is a different issue.

He can harass them out of business. That's the whole point of the agency.

it will be taken to court..then we will watch you Democrats-liberals-lefties whine and stomp your feet about how they are doing this because the Obama..............IS BLACK

Go ahead...take it to court

You are playing into Obamas hands. Let Obama highlight the Congressional pettiness while Republicans whine "That's not fair"

The American people will eat it up.....especially in an election year

that's all that matters to you lefties isn't it...FORGET the rest of the people and the country. if Obama can win by division, so be it..and the hell with what it will cost.

some of you are so petty
Yep, that's all that matters to the liberal-thefties - make the repubs look bad. And they're pretty good at it. BUT none of that is good for America, and Americans are getting fed up with the games from this admin.

All you have to do is look around. People are suffering much more than when he took office, and all the hype coming from Debbie Wasserman-Shultz (that insufferable LYING bitch) and others is NOT BELIEVABLE. It's just one more SLAP IN THE FACE.

Yes, there's an ass whoopin' coming in November, because they've underestimated the seething anger at the chosen one, and the dems, in the country.

Pelosi and Frank see it....they're running for the exits.

Why don't we let the American people decide whether congress is tying things up or President Obama.

Obama has laid out a challenge to Congress...let's see how Congress responds. There is a void in leadership in this country and it is long overdue for Obama to fill that void

If Republicans think Obama is overstepping his authority as President, let them take it to the people during the campaign of 2012. make it an issue

That is what Obama is hoping

Sad thing is that I agree with you. I think Obama is hoping that Americans are so ignorant of the law and so desperate for promises that they'll be taken care of, that they'll swallow the hook he has set for them.

And he may be right. Most people won't be paying close enough attention to know how he flouts the law to achieve his political ends.

Obama is slapping the Republicans in the face and daring them to do something

1. They can sue him in court
2. They can make it a campaign issue
3. They can start doing their job
Congress has done its job, the dimwit reid in the senate blocks everything and blames the house, then the idiot obamaturd wants to circumvent the constitution and all idiots can say is congress needs to do their job. Obamaturd doesn't do his job so fire him in Nov.

Well let's let America decide if Congress is doing it's job. Let republicans run on how much they have done for America in the last three years. Let them explain how much better off we are because they have blocked Congress from trying to help. Let them defend petty bickering even when both sides agree

Obama is playing the republicans right now....let's see how they respond

Your right there. The people will decide in 2012.

Congress won't be the only thing they will be looking at.
