What we owe Republicans

Ah well, this is the same kind of person that screams about the US attacking Germany after Pearl Harbor. The OP has that kind of historical accuracy.

Jefferson founded the Republican Party in 1791 based purely on his belief in freedom from big liberal government. His concept is now more American than apple pie.

Without Republicans the competition would be between big government parties, i.e., liberals, socialist, communists, Nazis, despots, fascists, religious nuts, etc. These parties would compete by promising more and more welfare and less and less work until the "Road to Serfdom" finally led to some form of liberal totalitarianism.

We have Jefferson and Republicans to thank for our freedom.

Wow man some people are just so fucking clueless it's sad. Learn your American History. Jefferson had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the Republican Party. He was a founding Member of the Democrat Republican Party which was a different party and is not party of Republican Part History. That party later evolved into the Democrat party we know today.

The Republican Party was not formed until the Early 1800's out of the Abolitionist Movement. I guess the confusion comes from the fact that today the Republican Parties Core Values are much closer to those of Jefferson, than the Democrat Party is today.

The Democrats of today are more Marxist/Socialist. They don't even register an image of what they once were. Republicans aren't that far behind...but there's HOPE for them. TEAS are trying to steer them back on course much to the chegrin of the elistists.

That being said, on the issue of federal power today's Republican party is closer overall to Jefferson's position than is today's Democratic party.

That is somewhat debatable, when we consider that the first DRs were largely opposed to adopting the constitution in the first place. Also interesting to note that economically, the DRs tended to support the interests of farmers, while industrialists and financiers saw their interests supported by the Federalists. Oh how the tables continually turn.

To call the Democrats of today "Marxist" shows that the person doing it is completely clueless. They're very different from the Democrats of the far past, granted, but anyone who thinks they're "socialist" has no idea at all what socialism is.

The Republicans are also very far from their origins, and no, the TP is not trying to "steer them back to their origins." If they did that, the GOP would become:

1) A party of civil rights and racial equality that gets the black and Hispanic vote by lopsided margins;

2) A party of workers' rights that distrusts capitalism and insists on regulating business to the benefit of the community.

Those two things describe the Republican Party for most of its history, when it was strong in the Northeast, upper Midwest, and West Coast and weak in the South, and when black voters were almost all Republicans. It does not describe the party today, nor does it describe what the Tea Party wants it to become.

I give Brutus another week till he starts yet another thread claiming Jefferson was a Republican

If he repeats it often enough.....it must be true

They are socialistic components to all forms of government. It's the nature of actually having a government and collectivism. So to engage in this sort of hyperbole is specious. Because the absolute alternative is anarchy.

The Republican Party is one the great evils in the world.

They want to turn America into Dickinsean England.

The most socialist organization in the world is the U.S. military.

And I for one will not stand by and let you besmirch our brave military.

"Historians do not agree on the details surrounding the origin of Parties. Some believe that Jefferson forged the Republican party from coalition of existing state and local parties"....[in the 1790's].

Page 31, Political Parties in America by Robert Huckshorn( most popular Political Science text on parties in USA.

"Although people were still deeply ambivalent about political parties, although one party did not necessarily recognize the legitimacy of the other, and although men on both sides were nostalgic- at one time or another- for the imaginary golden age of political harmony, few people could be found in the early 1790's who believed the parties did not exist. The parties had names: Federalist and Republican."

- Susan Dunn, Jefferson's Second Revolution.

"In referring to political parties I have adopted the names which the respective parties used in self-designation. Thus the Jeffersonian party has been referred to throughout as the Republican Party. This name came into use early in the 1790's among persons who considered themselves of a common political "interest", and the term "Republican interest" was generally used until it was replaced by the more definite "Republican Party".

The Jeffersonian Republicans( the formation of Party organization (1789-1801) by Noble E. Cunningham,Jr.

-During a conciliatory moment at his Inauguration Jefferson said: "today we are all Republicans, we are all Federalists." (referring to the two majors parties at the time)
We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists. If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union, or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it.
- When Jefferson won the election of 1800 the National Gazette headline was, "Complete triumph of Republican firmness over the "obstinacy" of the Aristocrats"! ( what Republicans called big government Federalists)

See why we are positive a liberal will have a low IQ?? What other conclusion is possible?

Republicans have done NOTHING for the country since Teddy Roosevelt

All major accomplishments can be attributed to Democrats

like the Depression and WW2, spying for Stalin, the Great Society near-genocide against blacks, and now the Great Recession. Those are major accomplishments???

Social Security has protected the retirements of hundreds of millions of Americans for 75 years.

perfectly stupid as usual for a liberal. 15% of lifetime pay is enough to make an average American rich with an estate of $1.4 million at retirement. With SS you get dog food money if you live long enough to collect a penny. Do the math genius.

Republican capitalism made Americans rich, libturds stole the money!!

Republican hands off policies to business and finance gave us the great depression. Thankfully we never voted for another Republican for 20 years

Democrats won WWII and turned a great country into an economic and military superpower

But Republicans did give us McCarthy

What we owe Republicans
Well Bluto, since you've asked, I'll tell you.
Thanks to the Republican Party we owe about half a trillion dollars in interest every year on the $12 trillion in debt the borrow and spend GOP ran up.

please notice that not one liberal will deny that without Jeffersonian Republicans liberal socialist communists and fascists would have competed to make government bigger and bigger until we had a soviet standard of living?

We owe our freedom 100% to Republicans.

It does?

Then why were most Americans resigned to poverty in their old age if they did not work until they died? There was no retirement for most Americans prior to Social Security

Want to talk Medicare which Republicans also opposed?

of course thats idiotic!! Bernanke is worlds expert and he says it was caused by Fed!!!, See why we say a liberal will be slow?

Democrats won WWII

too stupid as usual as if Republicans would have surrendered after Pear Harbor, and after Hitler declared war on us!! Low IQ??

But Republicans did give us McCarthy

yes a hero who was exposing liberals who were spying for Stalin!!
