I was observing all of the Republicans great advice about how we need to get in touch with America...

Flush Rush out of your head and listen for a minute; with only 3% of the country voting in various directions against Kerry, and only a little over 100,000 votes in Ohio separating him from the White House; this election was very, very close. The results, in my opinion, did not reflect a lack of touch with the American public, just a bad time to run for president.

However, as some of you know by now, I'm a person who's willing to bite on the subject and give a rebuttal.

HERE'S MY TOP FIVE ADJUSTMENTS THE DEMOCRATS NEED TO DO GET BACK ON TOP, BASED ON THIS HYPOTHESIS

5. Where are the democrat-based radio/web sites? Outnumbered 100 to 1, the democrats chose to get beaten up in these areas of the media. If you build it, they will come. If a liberal voices his/hers' opinion in a forrest, and no one's there to hear it, did it really make a sound?

4. Start the 2008 campaign NOW. That means hitting Bush every chance you get (that means every chance he messes up; trust me, you'll have plenty of chances).

3. E.T. GOOOO HOOOME!!! If I was the senator of Tennessee, you wouldn't find me in Washington unless there was a vote, or the state of the union address. You're a representative of your state; how can you understand your state's feelings when you're so far away. Go home, and eat your clam chowder, steak stew, shrimp creole, or in my case, barbeque ribs.

2. The state you're from MUST back you up. Gore lost Tennessee because he neglected "her", so "she" cheated; Kerry's state was not held in check (Gay Marriages), he won his state, but had lost votes in most of the other states.

1. BE YOURSELF

That's it.

1. BE YOURSELF

That's the MAIN problem. Most Democrats don't know WHO they are. And the ones on the Far Left who actually do know who they are, CANNOT be themselves and win.

Web sites? There are tons. Go to DU. You would probly be welcomed with open arms. Just be sure not to mention Bush by name (and God if you even THINK about putting the title "president" before his name...). Most have taken to putting a * where his name should be.

Radio? Air America. Why is Air America not doing so well? Becuase no one wants to listen to liberal screeds on the radio. Rush and Hannity are funny. Rhodes and Malloy are just MM-esque vitriol and tinfoil-hat conspiracy theories.

Yeah, go all out on petty GOTCHA gaming. That's all the Dems are good at. They've been doing it for years. Have you not noticed? All they can do is whine and obstruct and complain.

There are enough votes/meetings for them to take up residence in DC. As for understanding your states feelings:

1) If you get elected Senator in the first place you are probly a longtime residence of the state.

2) Your contituents can always write you a letter or use this new-fangled contraption called a telephone to convey their concerns to you.

agree here.

How can they be themselves when they are not even sure who they are?
And those that ARE sure of who they are are raving socialist loons.

Be yourself? John Kerry was himself. He is a indecisive man who will say and do anything that he thinks will give him political power. You dont understand that liberals ARE being themselves. Thats why they are losing.

"If you build it, they will come"??!!!

You're dreaming, man. Anyone desiring to hear the liberal message has ample opportunity to do so - HAS had for the last thirty years - EXCLUSIVELY, I might add. That's just it - this bankrupt, one-sided horseshit is not the only game in town anymore.

What truly went wrong with the Democrats in the 2004 election was that a majority of Americans who voted simply did not trust Kerry with their security, their pocketbooks, or their values. Simple as that.

With basically every major news channel and newspaper obviously biased to the left, lacking in a few radio shows is hardly going to hurt the Democrats.

Hitting Bush every chance you get is going to achieve nothing. Bush cannot run in 2008. Plus, the media basicaly hitting Bush every chance they got during the 2004 campaign obviously didn't work. In fact, according to a FOX News poll, it apparently was one of the reasons some people decided to vote for Bush.
E.T. GOOOO HOOOME!!! If I was the senator of Tennessee, you wouldn't find me in Washington unless there was a vote, or the state of the union address. What the Democrats need to do is nominate, not a senator, but a governor. Governors overwhelmingly have more success over senators when it comes to running for President. Governors, of course, do live in their state and are very well informed of the concerns of their people. BUT, being concerned with just the issues and concerns of your state's people is not going to win you the Presidency. You must know the issues and concerns of the American people as a whole. When it comes to being a senator, your vote represents the feelings of your state's people, that is, until you decide to run for President. At this point, depending on how you vote, can make or break your campaign. Your votes had better not just represent your state, but also, the American people too. Nobody will vote for someone just because they represented their state, unless they actually live in that state. For example, someone who lives in Georgia is not going to be concerned with whether a senator from Arizona, who is running for President, has represented their state in their votes, but rather, did the candidate represent overall the views I have as well.
The state you're from MUST back you up. Gore lost Tennessee because he neglected "her", so "she" cheated; Kerry's state was not held in check (Gay Marriages), he won his state, but had lost votes in most of the other states.
Winning your own state is obviously something you want to do. In 2000, as close as the election was, Al Gore losing his home state proved costly. HOWEVER, just because you are from a specific state does not mean that the state will back you as President. I refer you to my reply above. Not only do senators have to represent their state, but must represent the American people as a whole. It is sometimes hard to do both and please everyone. This, I believe, is one of the reasons senators do not have much luck at winning the Presidency.
BE YOURSELF
Definately, you want to be yourself. BUT, being yourself and being appealing to the American people can be two different things.

I think the first thing the Democrats have to do in order to have any success in future elections is to find a Democratic governor who is in the middle. A far left senator will only lead to failure again in 2008.

That's it.

How about just getting a candidate that you believe in, quit wasting time being obstructionists and bashers, and making your tent a bit smaller? You have so many extremist wackos in there that there is bound to be one that the common man will simply vote against. It's not the amount of causes you claim to represent that counts.

I know Kerry is a Senator of Mass, but I thought he was born in Colorado? If that's the case, CO didn't back up their hometown guy, either.

Air America is bombing because liberals already get their talking points out, unedited, on NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, AP, Reuters...

4. Start the 2008 campaign NOW. That means hitting Bush every chance you get (that means every chance he messes up; trust me, you'll have plenty of chances).

Newsflash... Bush isn't running in 2008. And another one: keep bashing Bush and watch the blame pile up on making the nation more divided.

3. E.T. GOOOO HOOOME!!! If I was the senator of Tennessee, you wouldn't find me in Washington unless there was a vote, or the state of the union address. This is good advice for both sides of the aisle.

Gore's home state did vote for him in 2000: the District of Columbia. After all, he had worked there for 24 years straight.

And Kerry couldn't even pick up as many votes is Mass. as Gore/Nader did! How pathetic is that!

1. BE YOURSELF

Yes, please do. Please come right out and tell the American people that you plan to raise everyone's taxes, regulate businesses to the point of bankruptcy, , gut the military, raise taxes, socialize healthcare, raise taxes, take away their guns, outlw any public expression of religion, raise taxes, and allow terrorists to attack America. It will save us Republicans the time and effort of campaigning.

This is not related to any post in particular, but I think it's worth mentioning. I have heard estimates of the monetary value of the favorable coverage Kerry received from the Old Media - simply by virtue of the fact that he was a liberal Democrat drawing oxygen. The consistent figure seems to be $2 billion.

I find it interesting that the thread author started this thread yesterday yet has not addressed any of the challenges to the thesis.

Heres one more post on this:

Kerry has no core beliefs, he is a hollow man whos principals change with the wind......I know thats a harsh reality for Liberals to accept, but many saw thru Kerry thankfully. There have been many posts that address how Bush supporters see the elite Liberals in this country, and why they rejected what little the Libs actually stand for, maybe you should take a look with an open mind???

Hmm.. this could go all night;

10. Stop relying on exit polls and then abusing the already faulty data to suggest that I voted because of Gay rights issues, rather than the real issue of the war.

9. Stop trying to be what you think a Republican is. Just be yourself.

8. Stop calling my grandmother an evil christian.

7. Stop calling my father a "Plugger"

6. Tell the truth for once in your life.

The liberal left has no idea what "truth" is and could care less; that's the problem. They have had no association with "truth" for many years now.

and why should they?

They can just fall back on their moral relativism (nothing is wrong, its just different and if you don't agree your a bigoted racist!) and sayings like "the truth is alot of different things to different people" "the truth is what you make of it"

They don't get that there is only one version of the truth. Unofortunaltly for them most Americans do.
