That he is not all-powerful. Some had this notion that his simply being elected would solve all the worlds problems. It hasn't. They've gotten worse.

HE oversaw the Mineral Management Services for 1.5 years, so if BP was operating so poorly and dangerously, HE had time to fix it. He didn't. He was busy shoving healthcare down our throats. That small, <$1M piece of equipment that we heard wasn't bought that could've prevented this......that they say BUSH/CHENEY allowed to go unpurchased? Um....if it was that crucial, Obama had 1.5 years to see that it was done. He didn't. He was busy bowing to dictators and shoving healthcare down our throats.

So, either Obama did or didn't allow the MMS/Oil Co. sex/alcohol parties to keep going on under his watch, or he didn't. If he did, he's at fault. If he didn't, well, look what happened.

Obama took a calculated move. He decided to play Big Daddy and sit back and tell the children (BP) to clean the mess on their own. The imagery of the "boot on the neck" is what he wanted. What he got was the imagery of a helpless Obama on a beach, picking at the sand, as it is announced over a month into the disaster that it won't be fixed until August, at the earliest.

What could've been done? Well, Bobby Jindal and many small gov'ts along the coast wanted to build large sand dunes to block the oil from coming on-shore. Their proposal was not approved by Obama for weeks. When it finally same so, Obama Admin approved ONLY 2% OF THE SAND DUNES to be built. You know, can't let a Republican governor, and God forbid a bunch of small governments and private citizens, to come up with an idea to fight this thing. That would deny him the "boot in the neck" imagery he wants.

Not to mention.........the worse this thing gets, in Obama's mind, the better chance he can use it to his advantage to pass Climate Change legislation to redistribute American wealth amongst the world. Too bad for him, that calculation is turning disasterous. This miscalculation, combined with the healthcare mugging of America, has finalized Obama's presidency to a pitiful 1 term and he will possibly not even be the Democratic nominee in 2012.

How crafty you "conservatives" can be.....trashing Obama (who...I'm assuming...has no background in the oil-business), to deflect from YOUR Super-Capitali$t/profit$-at-ANY-co$t agenda.

Why isn't John Boner begging the oil-boys (from the last Admin) to get more-involved, to....you know....show everyone Pro-Oil-prophets ALWAYS have all-the-answers?????

Obama has mishandled this from the start, but it isn't exactly an everyday disaster. So I have cut him slack, but when he gets up there and after a year and a half of being in office, still is blaming the last administration after the inspectors gave BP the clear a month ago, after BP made Obama their number one recieptiant of campaign money. He is now looking like a typicial politician that snowed most the voters in 2008.

So the conservative consensus is that the oil industry is not regulated enough? That the government controls on it aren't stringent enough?

So conservatives will join others, such as the environmentalists, to push to impose much more draconian regulation, restriction, oversight, and control on the oil industry?

I'm guessing NO...

The laxity of the MMS is effectively WHAT CONSERVATIVES HAVE WANTED for business in general...

...less regulation, less oversight, less government interference, more freedom for businesses.

The MMS's negligence was an improper exercise in what conservatives have always wanted to be the legal and proper involvement of the government, i.e., leave the corporations alone!

It's really comical, in a sad way.

Where do you get this crap from? DO the voices in your head make you write it?
We arent discussing any regulations. What regulation would have prevented this event? None, short of total ban on deepwater drilling.
We are discussing Obama's response to this crisis. Which sucks. If he has been thinking about it every day, as he claimed, and things are this bad despite his paying attention, what does that say about his leadership abilities?
He could not have prevented the initial blow out. But he could have done things to mitigate the effects. And he didnt.

Obviously you didn't read the OP:

Comon, at least learn to read before you pretend you know something.

whether or not he had time to fix MMS is immaterial. he certainly should have stepped in and thrown the govt's resources at the problem long before 5 weeks went by.

when the exxon valdez disaster happened, bush1 federalized the response after 14 days.

obama fucked up.

It's simply a lie that no federal resources were deployed for the first 5 weeks.

Since in all likelihood this oil is going to continue to spew out until August, at least the Obama administration can get credit for properly responding to 80% of the disaster.

and it's a bigger lie to say that the federal response in the first five weeks was anywhere close to adequate.

Well, we will be sure in the future to require all drillers on federal property to collectively provide sufficient capital to the US government to finance a fully operational fully equipped fully staffed 24/7 standby agency that will be able on a moment's notice to provide a fully adequate response.

I'm sure Republicans and conservatives will enthusiastically pass that.

is it fun living a completely binary life?

You really need to change the title of this thread, because this post doesn't tell us anything about President Obama. Your premises are based on YOUR reading of his actions and the intent behind them.

So....ALL it reveals is a picture of YOU...

George Bush didn't have experience in Hurricaine control either. Notwithstanding there were local and state obligations that were not met in Louisina in that case, , there are no such obligations in this case.. offshore drilling is strictly obie wan's responsibility.. he fails miserably,, meanwhile back in Chicago.

So in this situation, Obama should have provided MORE government, MORE spending of taxpayer's money and not have to find a way to pay for it...

that's the difference in frivilous palm greasing and butt kissing and true emergency spending.. sorry you cannot tell the difference. Had he not wasted so much on butt kissing the unions we would have more to throw into this problem..
