In 1987, on the Constitution’s bicentennial, Time magazine calculated that “of the 170 countries that exist today, more than 160 have written charters modeled directly or indirectly on the U.S. version.”

A quarter-century later, the picture looks very different. “The U.S. Constitution appears to be losing its appeal as a model for constitutional drafters elsewhere,” according to a new study by David S. Law of Washington University in St. Louis and Mila Versteeg of the University of Virginia.

When the founding fathers wrote the constitution in 1776 the did not know that in 2011 we would be living in a whole new world with different set of problems. A population explosion plus 20 million illegal aliens. A welfare system to take care of our elderly, poor and disabled since we no longer take care of our own and chickens and corn do not pay the bills. We did not pay foreign countries to be our friends.

The constitution of the 1700s cannot deal with the problem we have today. The constitution is like the old covenant that GOD had with the Jews that become obsolete because a new covenant was needed. We need a new constitution to deal with a new set of problems.

The reason we have so many problems today be because we try to apply the 1776 constitution to today’s problems and it don’t work. There are most who are stuck in 1776 and want us all stuck with them and stand in the way of progress.

The constitution was written by a group of old white men for white men and not even white women and blacks were not even considered.

We don't have the Constitution of the 1700's. Its been amended numerous times since.

I don't recall the place in the Constitution where EITHER women or blacks are mentioned before the 13th Amendment, aside from a mention of slaves in the Census, which certainly wasn't every black in the country. Women didn't get mentioned until the 19th Amendment, if I remember correctly, which was certainly well after the Founders' time. Doesn't sound to ME like they were writing a document JUST for white men.

You know when they wrote the Constitution they stopped and prayed for a few days in a black preachers church. A free indentured servant. Never did all white people think slavery was OK and its OK to be proud what we've become. You should just leave if its so bad for you here

In theory the FF's thought they were crafting a constitution that had enough flexibility to cope with problems that might arise.

And it's that FLEXIBILITY that some Americans think are leading us away from the signers original intent.

I think they're right about that, too.

We ARE far away from the vision of the nation that the FF's intended.

For one thing the FF's would NOT approve of how we allowed the STATES to enpower corporations.
