Lincoln had been a Whig all his career and they believed in high protectionist tariffs on imports. When the Whig party collapsed in the mid 1850s it renamed itself the Republican Party but kept the same policies. OTOH the Confederacy believed in free trade and no tariffs which meant that most foreign countries would now ship their goods thru southern ports. That's what Lincoln and many northern businesses objected so fiercely to.

These charts show how many words were devoted to the issues raised in each state's Declaration as a percentage of the whole. "Context" refers to procedural language and/or historical exposition that is not connected to a specific argument.

It proves their primary concern was slavery, not tariffs.

Number of times they cited slavery: 83

Number of times they cited tariffs: zero

Doesn't really matter what the south thought since they did not start the war. The north started the war and they were concerned about losing a lot of shipping business since the south believed in free trade. THINK

Words prove intent. To clarify....

"The great truth, I repeat, upon which our system rests, is the inferiority of the African. The enemies of our institutions ignore this truth. They set out with the assumption that the races are equal; that the negro is equal to the white man. If their premises were correct, their conclusions would be legitimate. But their premises being false, their conclusions are false also."
-Alexander Stephens April 23 1861 before the Virginia Seccession Convention

Then there is this from the same guy.....

"Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition." [Applause.] "This, our new Government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. "

Everyone agrees with that.- blacks are mentally inferior. Why else is it that Africa can't get out of the stone age.? Doesn't mean they deserve to be slaves, mind you.

You must have been shaken to your core to read that. Why else did you deflect so hard? I note your concession and will alert you when I formally accept it.

Retard, this is your thread and the thread title is how the war was over tariffs, not slavery. That means you were blaming the south for the war since the north had no reason to go to war over tariffs. How quickly you abandon your idiocy at the drop of a hat.

Not to mention, the south started the war when they attacked a federal fort.

And they seceded over slavery, not tariffs. We know this because they admitted it.

You're the one deflecting. Answer the question. Why can't africa get out of the stone age?

Sorry. Youre the one that deflected on your own OP. Why did the south say it was about slavery despite your claims?

No reason??? HAHAHA. The OP explained that's why the north started the war. The north wanted tariffs and the south said no tariffs, which means all imports would then come in thru southern ports. The north would lose both its tariff revenue and it's shipping business. The north had a huge reason to keep the south in the union. THINK

Doesn't matter what the south said since they didn't start the war. The north did and it's absurd to think the north cared about slavery. Northern soldiers would not fight in a war to free 4 million slaves who would then come north and take their job. THINK

Youre deflecting again. The south told us they were fighting over slavery. You look like an idiot....... again.

That's not reason for war, ya idiot. Having a federal fort attacked -- THAT's a reason.

Well we should be kind to the OP.

He thinks that Africa is like a Tarzan movie.

Not like this.

What an idiot you are.. You cannnot even stay on topic in your own thread. The poster clearly exposed your lack of understanding of what the Civil War was fought over, and now after being made to look totally stupid and misinformed, you want to change the subject and talk about Africa.

You probably cannot read, count or tell time either.

Try taking some remedial elementary school classes, then go get a GED.
