What other times is it okay to not show up and do your job.

I know of some union members who have pulled no-shows. They received a verbal warning. Don't do it again or we'll give you another verbal warning.

They're doing their jobs.

The resolution is a farce and sounds as if the Republicans are getting ready to saddle up a posse and use deadly force.

No they are not. They are violating the will of the voters by not showing up to debate and vote on legislation.

No...they are doing what they were elected to do... in this case, stop the Republicans from screwing over teachers and vindictively pass a law that is in all likelihood unconstitutional.

B'loney. To represent The People they have to show up. That's what the job entails.

Going into hiding because they don't like the fact that the Dems got spanked last November is the act of cowardly adolescents.

Wisconsin Senate Rule 23::

Senate Rule 23. Committee not to be absent. Members of a committee, except a conference committee, may not be absent by reason of their appointment during the sitting of the senate, without special leave.
[am. 2001 S.Res. 2]

From the WI Constitution:

Article IV, §7 (of WI document)
Organization of legislature; quorum; compulsory attendance. Section 7. Each house shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members; and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may compel the attendance of absent members in such manner and under such penalties as each house may provide.

what's unconstitutional about it loon?

They are representing the majority of voters in Wisconsin on this issue.

No they are not. They are AWOL in violation of the Senate Rules and the WI Constitution.

But of course, elections only matter to the Dems when they win.

Poll after poll shows that the majority wants to leave collective bargaining alone and that Walker is on shaky ground.

WOW. Don't seem to recall you having that same thought when the Dems screwed over the taxpayers with Obamacare.

Oh wait. I forgot. That was the Dem majorty in both Houses. The Reps didn't head for the hills either.

Never mind.

The only poll that legally matters is the election last November.

And here is Senate Rule 16, which the Dems are violating:

Senate Rule 16. Leave of absence. Members of the senate shall not absent themselves from the session during the entire day without first having obtained leave of absence. Such leave may be granted by a majority vote of the senate at any time.

Rules of the Wisconsin Senate

And WI Senate Rule 15:

Senate Rule 15. Roll call, quorum. Before proceeding to business, the roll of the members shall be called, and the names of those present and those absent shall be entered on the journal. A majority of the membership presently serving must be present to constitute a quorum for the transaction of business; a smaller number, however, can adjourn; and may compel the attendance of absent members. When any roll call discloses the lack of a quorum, no further business may be conducted until a quorum is obtained, but the members present may take measures to procure a quorum or may adjourn.
