I'd first like to start by saying my dad was an officer in the navy. While life was strict and comfortable, I was often reminded of the simple rules that can make life better.

Here are a couple things that have served me well over the years.....
Always treat others as I would want to be treated. I heard that one a lot. lol
Honesty is always the best policy.
Learn from your mistakes.

I could list several others. :)

Don't pee on an electric fence
Mom is always right, even when she is wrong
Everything is easier if people like you
A good dental plan makes for a boring avatar.

Never steal more than you can carry

Look both ways before you throw a rock at a cop.

Never make plans for tomorrow, you may not be able to raise bail

Work hard and you will be rewarded.
America is the land of the free and home of the brave.
9/11 was done by evil Muslim terrorists who hate us for our freedom.
Black people deserve special treatment forever because of slavery, and if we give them special treatment they will like us and we will live in harmony.

Boy did they sucker me.

Mind your P's and Q's.

The whole world hates a 'snitch'.

If you have to smoke marijuana, don't inhale.

Don't sit in the back row at the cinema with your girlfriend.

Keep your trousers zipped up.

Don't make me come in there!

Same with the addition of always be prepared, don't ever be afraid, never judge a book by it's cover, be kind and you will get kindness back eventually.

The best thing my parents instilled in us was that nothing is more important than family.

When you are standing next to your best friend and her mother tells her she is not allowed to drive her car because she does not have a license yet that means you cannot drive that car either.

Even if you do have a license.

Even if you do have 2 tickets to a Dio concert.

And no, the fact that she was not speaking to you is not a viable defense.

She still loves me still but she still remembers this. We had a great time.

"See past maya, escape samsara, and achieve moksha," my old Irish Grandma used to say.
