What Liberals Don’t Understand About Ayn Rand

You know reading the article can help clear up some misconception about Rand.

I think the misconception is found on both sides, but much more on the left.

The message I take from Rand is that being rational, self-productive and fair is the highest virtueman can achieve. It does not mean selfishness as defined by, say , the christian doctrines. But "selfish" as in not sacrificing oneself for someone that does not deserve it.

Who does not deserve your sacrifice is the key here. I veer off from Rand's thinking and say that there are those you should help and those you should not.I leave it to ragnar to defend not helping most peoople

So...........according to Rand, does that mean if I see a car wreck with someone caught inside and the car is on fire, I should take time to interview them to see if they deserve to be helped? I mean, I'd be endangering (and therefore sacrificing) myself to save them, what if the person who wrecked had just commited a rape/murder and wrecked because they were trying to escape?

There is no misconception from the left about Ayn Rand's philosophy...we hear and see how Ayn Rand's philosophy manifests in her true believers. We hear the social Darwinism, the Monica Lewinsky worship of the opulent, the utter contempt for the poor and middle class, and the total void of any human capital in their 'solutions'. They are the closest thing to Stalinists and Hitler's minions in our nations history.

What liberals DO understand about Ayn Rand

We DO understand the vile anti social contempt that comes from the mouths of her believers. We DO understand the horrible implications of policies proposed by Ayn Rand followers like Paul Ryan.

Ayn Rand is dead. So there is nothing to understand, EXCEPT what her true believers believe and what they perceive her philosophy to be.

An even better example is 9/11. According to Rand, the first responders who ran into the building were IMMORAL! :cuckoo:

Ayn Rand was a parasite, looter, moocher who collected Social Security and Medicare under the name Ann O'Connor. Of course when SHE leeches off of the government it's OK because she is acting in her own SELF INTEREST consistent with her philosophy of selfishness.

Again... Most often, here at USMB and on the internet in general, leftist confuse Ayn Rand the woman with the philosophy of Objectivism or the ideals of her fictional characters. They forget, or pretend too, that one may be pro-Socrates and anti-suicide. One may pick and choose ideas and arguments for the pre-insane Nietzsche without making the false assumption that German philosophy necessarily leads to Nazism. Indeed, one may even support many aspects of President Clinton while still despising Clinton the woman abusing letch.

so she had a duality philosophy.

Yeah................she did..........................do as I say, not as I do. She (Ayn Rand) lived on socialist programs (that she didn't pay for by herself) while telling others they shouldn't do so as well.

Any Rand -- a hateful, not especially bright foreignor whose anti-democratic ideas appeal to stupid people.
