The SCOTUS decision today was the correct one. What I find troubling is in what John Roberts chose to do.
The SCOTUS's job is to judge wether a law or case complies with the constitution. It is not their job to define things. Justice Roberts chose to lecture us on the definition of marriage and its importance to society, among other things. This isn't his job.
Here is what he should have said:
The Constitution of the United States was designed and written for the specific purpose of limiting government so that freedom and liberty should never be threatened in this country. There are few instances that are more intrusive than a government that regulates who can and cannot get married. The 10th Amendment doesn't apply in this case simply because the majority cannot, in a free society, be allowed to vote away the rights and liberties of a minority. No government at any level can be allowed to deny the liberty of its citizens.
