Actually it's my daughter singing opera. I don't know how to download audio or I would. Trust me, you'd all be grateful. ;)

I love opera. That is wonderful that she has this gift.

Here are two of my favorites: Orff's Carmina Burana

If more classical music was performed like this I bet you could get more kids interested.

You'll all have to give me some slack here, I'm functionally deaf and can't hear any CD without amplification, including my daughter's. With that said, she sings opera in Italian, German, and Russian on her 'master's piece.' Actually there's a Hansel and Gretel bit that may be Dutch. Is there a difference between German and Dutch?

I'm not claiming any objectivity, but will say that when she sang the Ave Maria a couple weeks ago, in Latin, in an Episcopal Church for a wedding, people I didn't know were crying. The celebrant, a female, asked her after that song was completed, if she could also sing the 'Lord's Prayer?' Being ever my daughter, she said, "That's not in the program." The celebrant said, "Really, if you know it, could you please?" She did.

The idea that I, a basically deaf person has a child with such a gift? Blown away.

I believe Dutch and German are different. But what a blessing that must be to have such a lovely voice! Whenever I "try" to sing, my husband just smiles. He also can't carry a tune. But my daughter likes to sing and has a nice voice. God works in mysterious ways...

Indeed. One of my 'saddest times ever' was in second grade. I loved to sing. Trials for choir were open for my Catholic school. All these kids, like 80 of us! Asked to sing something, perhaps "ah?" The director pointed to my section, asked us to repeat. We did. She pointed at me and said, "Go home." Truth is, I couldn't hear, much less carry a tune, but that hurt. I've never sung since, outside of being alone.

That I've such a daughter? Dang it! Truth is, my sons are also musically talented though they found other ways to express themselves, between the two of them they play: trumpet, guitar, piano, and cello. The daughter also plays the piano, harpsichord, guitar, violin, cello, drums and bass. Not so bad?

Oh... that's so sad. :(

Thanks. Yeah, caused a bit of contention at my school. Seems the teachers are supposed to help lead songs during mass. I had to beg off and there was some problems with that. I said, "Fine, not going to happen, I'm functionally deaf and will not have the middle school students laughing at me. I'll take that to court." No longer a problem.

Yeah, middle school kids can be cruel! Still keep singing Annie! It's theraputic!

I sing in my car.

Today we were practicing "Up on the Rooftop" for the Christmas Program at school, the kids didn't know the second or third verses that well, so I started singing them really loud. I told them they better learn it or I would sing AGAIN! (but you can do that with second graders lol)

I'm probably going to be a grandma that reads Shakespeare to my young ones, rather than lullabyes. Truly, I cannot hear myself and my pitch is way off. I understand enough of music to get that.

Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade

First movement, also known as "The Sea and Sinbad's Boat"

Ohhhh man, there's so many.

Bach - Toccata & Fugue in D Minor
Beethoven - 9th Symphony, 4th Movement
Dvorak - "From The New World", 4th Movement
Rossini - Sinfonia (Overture to the Barber of Seville)

Speaking of Opera, my favourite is Carmen (and song the "Les triangles...")

And I'd say "Libertango" by Astor Piazzolla could count as classical, and it'd be one of my favourites too.
