At least the parent killing said child doesn't subject them to life-long torture they can't escape.

I would think beating and raping them over a period of many years would be worse.

a.) the child is more likely to kill themselves, intentionally, or unintentionally through the abuse of drugs or other dangerous behavior
b.) the child is more likely to grow up and beat and/or rape their own children

Either of those sound worse than just outright killing your child, or at the very least equal.
