Lets say you are a republican in these states that hasn't been beaten up or killed by the members of the democratic party. Your vote won't change to whom's party your state's electorial votes will go. It will probably remain democrat for a while but what if you are a democrat? Since the overall election is being decided by states that are not california or new york your state's electors may not be able to have as much power over the presidential election as you may think. Strategies are often built around getting all the other states and a state that isn't one of the two biggest doesn't get to control who is going to be elected president of the United States.

Down ballot candidates. Senate, congress, assembly, judge, dog catcher. Not voting at all because you don't like the presidential candidates is stupid. And state and local candidates can affect your life the most. Go and vote. You can leave some selections blank or vote third party if you want. Go vote!

you could say the same about every state thats not close to being a swing state, people in alabama and massachusetts have almost no reason to vote

I'm saying that the way election strategies are it may not make a bit of difference if people in those states vote. They will always be democratic and campaign plan their strategy around that.

The republican party has pretty much written off those states so they plan their strategy around winning other states. Texas is republican but it has gone democrat once or twice. Voting republican in those states matters but in California or New York it wouln't affect the outcome if less people voted their.

Have you ever wondered why voter registration campaigns are never in those states?

okay? but both parties plan to campaign in swing states? it should be fairly obvious why they would ignore states that are very likely to vote for them, because of the electoral college

Nahh. . . he's absolutely right. If you live in CA or NY, there is no point in voting. . . .
