It's not just income, tho. What if you are a young professional making $100K per year but have $200K in school loans?

I would pay off $20k a year so have that paid off in 10 years.

I remember buying a car when I didn't have money. Do you want tire protection? Nope. I'll risk it. Do you want extended warranty? Nope I'll risk it. Do you want damage protection forgiveness? I can't afford that. Do you want a bedliner for the cab? I can't afford that.

Today it's yes, yes, sure, ok. I'll take it all. It's nice not having to worry about that extra $63 a month.

But the broke guy in me does the math and god damn that's $700 a year.
