That 30mm gun on the A-10 isn't optimal, being it's less effective against soft targets than the 30mm HE rounds of the Apache's gun, and still nearly useless against tanks. Even in the cold war, the 30mm DU rounds could only kill a T-55 or T-62 tank by attacking it from the rear.
