What is more important than the welfare of the starving people?

Recently, North Korea announced it will decline the USAID humanitarian assistance.
According to the North Korean human rights special report, 8.7 million people are starving and 1.8 million people among them failed to get any humanitarian aid this year.
Why is North Korea declining the aid? To guarantee more benefit from the negotiation? To secure international recognition of North Korean Missile launch?
The reason is pretty simple. North Korea is sacrificing the people for the sake of maintaining the regime. This is just disgusting.

Um ... you really want to help a country that can't sustain it's own food supply? Any country that gets too many citizens should starve ...

Do you have any idea what it might be like to live there? If they have that much control of anything? Fine if you want to starve their fearless leader, but beyond that - I really fear for your humanity with a remark like that.

Nice of you.

The vast majority of North Korean people are victims of the criminal government which lords over them.

While I do not advocate that we invade to change that fact, the glee that some of you express about their suffering is foolish to the extreme.

It is none of our business what other governments do to their citizens. let's get our own house in order before we start telling other countries how they should conduct themselves.

Throughout history, societies have been ruled by the elite, and the elite have starved the people. Also throughout history, those societies, that were treated poorly by the elite, eventually overthrew the elite to create what would become a better society. They did it on their own without the help of outside influences in most cases. The same will happen in North Korea. The only question is how long will it take?

The answer is: Who cares how long it will take? After all, it really is none of our business.

Except that's not why they're starving. They're starving because their own government keeps them in poverty, and won't allow outside help when it is proven (once again) that tyranny, communism, etc., results in the decline of civilization and life.

Darfur is in even a worse situation. Those people are starving and the Sudanese government is exterminating them, and anyone who wants to help them are thrown out as "spies".

Lovely. Has nothing to do with overpopulation. In fact, the Sudanese government is sytematically eliminating the whole population of Darfur.

Maybe it's because USAID is used as a CIA front.

I'm for protecting people who are being systematically starved and slaughtered by tyrants. And not for prettying it up and saying they're just dying off because they can't grow enough food.

Darfur and N. Korea BOTH could raise the food to feed their people if it weren't for corrupt tyrannical governments. They aren't dying because they're overpopulated. They're dying because there aren't enough of them, and they don't have the money, to defend themselves.

This varies from letting Americans starve how?

So are you implying America has the responsibility to go take over every country with incompetent and/or cruel governments, or only those that also thumb their noses at us?

That was my point. Our involvement will not change anything. It is up to the people of that society.

The problem Allie, is that you can't force people to expect more for themselves. They have to come to that conclusion on their own before any positive change will take place. Giving them aid only keeps the tyrants in power longer and does not help the people in the long run.
