What is a Socialist Democrat, Bernie Sanders, or a Socialist Democracy. I was not really sure. I am no fan of socialism but it is very different than pure socialism. Sanders is doing a piss poor job of distinguishing how he is different than socialism.

IMHO, a social democrat is committed to policies that try to curb inequality, poverty, and the oppression of underprivileged groups, including support for universally-accessible public services like education, health care, workers' compensation, child care and care for the elderly. They want to extend democratic decision-making beyond politics into the economic sphere in the form of co-determination for employees and other economic stakeholders, within a democratically elected gov't.

In contrast, democratic socialists see capitalism as being inherently incompatible with the democratic values of freedom, equality, and solidarity and they believe that the problems inherent to capitalism can only be solved by superseding private ownership with some form of social ownership that usually ends up in a totalitarian state. The democratic socialists believe that reforms aimed at addressing the economic contradictions of capitalism will only cause more problems to emerge elsewhere in the economy, so therefore capitalism can never be sufficiently "humanized" and must ultimately be replaced by socialism.

The primary differences (supposedly as per definition) is in Socialism, all means of economy and all property are community owned, typically single party control.
In a Socialist Democracy all economies are community owned but private property is still respected and the government is democratically elected which allows for multiple political parties within the framework.
The theoretical goal of both is full economic and social equality.

As always seems to be the case it never truly works out that way in practice. Matter of fact almost all socio-political-economic systems are designed on paper to make all equal, to benefit all equally never work as designed when the real human factor is applied.
