What, if anything, has OWS actually accomplished?

It changed to the national discussion somewhat.

It rallied those who see the economic problems as coming from Wall Street's excesses.

That's about it far as I can see.

It changed to the national discussion somewhat.

Did it? Or was that the Tea Party?

This is just "Look, we socialist can be angry too" as far as I can tell.

It rallied those who see the economic problems as coming from Wall Street's excesses.

While ignoring the excess of Washington and the organized crime known as Unions.

That's about it far as I can see.

It will be interesting to see where it goes from here. I don't think it has done anything, and I think that the frustration of that may well lead to them becoming violent.

Here's one thing Occupy has accomplished: it's being taken very seriously by Republican campaign operatives as a threat. This came from a GOP Governors' Association meeting, so it's something actual Republican governors are dealing with.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Republican Governors Association met this week in Florida to give GOP state executives a chance to rejuvenate, strategize and team-build. But during a plenary session on Wednesday, one question kept coming up: How can Republicans do a better job of talking about Occupy Wall Street?

"I'm so scared of this anti-Wall Street effort. I'm frightened to death," said Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist and one of the nation's foremost experts on crafting the perfect political message. "They're having an impact on what the American people think of capitalism."

Luntz offered tips on how Republicans could discuss the grievances of the Occupiers, and help the governors better handle all these new questions from constituents about "income inequality" and "paying your fair share."

Oh well, I tried being reasonable, guess I should just go around calling the teabaggers nazis and flinging wild theories about like a maniac.

There is nothing reasonable about you. The use of "Teabagger" as an epithet is sufficient to warrant the moniker of "Shitter" for the OWS astroturfers.

In the end, I just pointed out the fact that the Shitters are a 100% Obama centric group, with one goal, the reelection of Barack Obama.
That's not entirely true. The movement exists because they are unhappy with Obama and the rest of the democrats. That is a given and if you do not understand that then you have not been actually paying attention. The fact is they are going to vote for Obama simply because they have no other choice. They are democrats after all.

They are the other side of the tea party, and a good reflection in the differences between the democrats and the republicans of you ask me but that is another thread....

The reality is that they are as stuck as the tea party in their politicians that have failed over and over again but there is no one to turn to. While they have accomplished a lot in a short time (the entire country is not talking about their agendas, as disorganized as it is) but they are going about it in the wrong way. Wall street is not going to change because someone is in a park. They need to focus on the government aspect more and less on the 'we hate wall street' moniker that they seem to be focused on. They are starting though and I am willing to be that the movement as a whole has a strong future though it will not be remotely similar to what it is today.

Mention of "income inequality" increased 400%...

In case anyone still thinks the OWS represents the "99%" or that they had disappeared:

February 1st a packed crowd turned out at LAVA to hear Alex Knight and George Caffentzis do an introductory breakdown of capitalism, event one of a 10 week series on Dissecting Capitalism.

George Caffentzis, who some may know from his writings with Midnight Notes (including Promissory Notes, much discussed around LAVA circles a couple years back) started it off giving a historic breakdown of the development of capitalism.

Next up, Alex Knight, blogger at End of Capitalism and protagonist at Occupy Philly spoke on capitalism as an abusive relationship, his theory on the impending end of capitalism and what he sees as our current mode of Zombie Capitalism.

When the OWS movement first started it was a new phenomena and garnered the public's and media's attention.

But if the Occu-tards migrate back to their nesting sites in the spring.

They won't even be news worthy; let alone be relevant to anything.

Seriously. What have they actually accomplished? Anywhere?

Anything????

Please be specific and link to your sources.

If the goal of the Shitter movement was to discredit protests against government, then they have accomplished their goal.

By staging these mock protests, the real ones by the Tea Party are diminished, ensuring that the oligarchy is not threatened by an uprising of the populace.

The OWS Shitters are here to defend the ruling elite, and have done a good job at defending the ruling class, particularly Obama.

the first of many times in this thread it is used

Draining city coffers of millions of dollars.
Less for the crooked politicians and their cronies to steal.

Distracted police so that countless other crimes occured.
Not nearly as much as the phony War on Drugs has done and continues to do -- without comment from such astute right-wing observers.

Committed a number of crimes themselves.
But not nearly as many as those far more significant crimes they are calling attention to -- such as crimes which have looted our Treasury and caused the near collapse of the Nation's economy.

OWS is bringing about a political awakening such as occurred in the early 1960s. Give it time. The summer is coming and passions are aroused.

These OWS scumbags are like medieval peasants, wallowing in filth and putrid squalor. They have single-handedly brought back many diseases long thought conquered. One can only hope that the Black Death does not show up next......

Passions have been aroused. When can we expect DHS and the SPLC to label them a left wing extremist group?

USA TODAY's editorial is right to say that Occupy might lack clear goals on how to move forward, but the movement has accomplished its main original goal: to protest these injustices, not by simply holding a rally and going home, but by keeping the rally going to underscore the seriousness of this problem. Your piece accuses the protesters of sitting around and doing nothing. So maybe they should take up their Second Amendment-sanctioned guns and storm Wall Street and our nation's capitals. If our country doesn't change, it could very well come to that one day.
