What exactly is a right winger and a left winger?

Right Winger: A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principle.

Left Winger: Offers a mixture of sound and original ideas. Unfortunately none of the sound ideas are original and none of the original ideas are sound.

Stay away from the middle of the road. You'll only get run over.

Although not a succinct definition, I'd say that the term 'right-winger' is pretty much the catch-all pejoritive that the mainstream media likes to use for any who are not lock-step liberals.

Somewhat like the definition of 'racist:' a Conservative who is winning the argument.

and what is a left winger?

Another thread.

But I'd participate if you'd care to start it.

Do it here, I'll change the title of the thread!

Right-Winger:
At the hearings of Justice Roberts, we see an interesting interplay that illuminates the differences between liberals and conservatives:
ROBERTS: I had someone ask me in this process -- I don’t remember who it was, but somebody asked me, you know, “Are you going to be on the side of the little guy?”

And you obviously want to give an immediate answer, but, as you reflect on it, if the Constitution says that the little guy should win, the little guy’s going to win in court before me. But if the Constitution says that the big guy should win, well, then the big guy’s going to win, because my obligation is to the Constitution. That’s the oath.

Left-Winger:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life….Personal experiences affect the facts that judges choose to see. .. "

See the difference?

Well put.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to PoliticalChic again.

I was never impressed with the obsession with that quote. It wasn't as though the emphasis that she placed on her "Latina" heritage was due to some genetic factor or element of it, but simply due to relative cultural conditions. It thus seemed accurate, just as an Indonesian declaring that his status as a Indonesian provided him with a superior understanding to issues that might be relevant in that regard than a Frenchman would be correct.

It's not a question of how impressed you were, but rather that you are missing the comparison with the reference, as follows:

"Well, remember that Ginsburg and O’Connor said that “At the end of the day,” the wise old woman and man will decide the same way."

Surely you see that one comment is in keeping what we should expect from a justice, and one is not.

That should be the ideal to strive for, but the reality is indeed that ethnic minorities are generally in a position that enables them to undergo different experiences and acquire a more diverse perspective on various issues than members of an ethnic majority could.

You do know that PC is an ethnic minority, at least here in the USA, right? As you have stated you are. But yet, both of you are on opposite sides of the coin politically. Maybe you both can find a common ground here.

Now, now, I believe you've had too much of the Kool-Aid, and it's clouding your objectivity- to mix metaphors.

Let's try again: which kind of judge do you wish for if it were your future at stake, one who follows the law, or one who recalls that a guy who looks like you once took her parking space?

And, you did not comment on this line:"Personal experiences affect the facts that judges choose to see. .. "
You do realize that Supreme Court Justices are not permitted to re-view 'facts' of the case, but must take the case that they have granted certiorari, and simply compare it to the law.

Here's what I should have said about porn and right wingers: you cant explain what either one is, but you know each when you see it.

The bloke on the other side of the ice from the Rocket? :D

Bah, just look it up on wiki.

EDIT: Whoops, somebody already did that. Well, in that case:

Wikipedia said:
The spectrum of left-wing politics ranges from centre-left to far left (or ultra-left). The term centre left describes a position close to the political mainstream. The terms far left and ultra-left refer to positions that are more radical. The centre-left includes social democrats, progressives and also some democratic socialists and greens (in particular the eco-socialists). Centre-left supporters accept market allocation of resources in a mixed economy with a significant public sector and a thriving private sector. Centre-left policies tend to favour limited state intervention in the economy in matters pertaining to the public interest. The centre-left also often favours moderate environmentalist policies and generally, though not universally, supports individual freedom on moral issues.
In several countries, the terms far left and radical left have been associated with ideologies such as communism, Maoism, Autonomism and Collectivist anarchism. They have been used to describe groups that advocate anti-capitalist, identity politics or eco-terrorism as well as the totalitarian regimes of Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. In France, a distinction is made between the left (Socialist Party and Communist Party) and the far left (Trotskyists, Maoists and Anarchists).[8] The US Department of Homeland Security defines left-wing extremism as groups who want "to bring about change through violent revolution rather than through established political processes."[9][10]

"So you all are on the front lines. But as you do your job, know that Judge Sotomayor has your back as well," Biden said. "And throughout this nomination process, I know you'll have her back."

not that she has the constitution in mind, but that she has the police's back....
