Yep, interestingly enough. Apparently you watch "Food Fact or Fiction", because they just did a show about that.
As far as the "french" fries? They were actually invented in Belgium, but because the soldiers from there spoke French, when the American soldiers encountered them, they didn't call them Belgian fries, but rather referred to them as French fries because of the language that was spoken.
Kinda funny by the way, especially when you think back a few years when all the politicians were calling for a ban on French fries. They didn't know they are an American version of a Belgian food.
Same thing with our English muffins. Britain didn't know what we were eating until the mid 20th century when they were finally shipped over there.
