What did Romney and the GOP mean by "gifts"?

"With regards to the young people, for instance," Romney told his big fund-raisers, "a forgiveness of college loan interest was a big gift. Free contraceptives were very big with young, college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents' plan, and that was a big gift to young people."

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal - said a winning strategy does not involve "insulting (voters) and saying their votes were bought"

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who said, "Rhetoric like this keeps digging a hole for the Republican Party."

Remember, it was just this month that one of Romney's companies in Freeport, Illinois is closing down and moving to China. Since Mitt called "blind trust" a "ruse" and a "trick" on the American people (thank God for videotape), he can't hide behind that and say, "The move has nothing to do with him". Paying Americans 17.50 an hour or Chinese 99 cents an hour. All that extra money is basically "free".

And take a good long look at those "gifts".

Contraception - the cost of providing to a thousand women is less than the state taking care of a single unwanted child.

Before Obama moved the student loans away from the banks, they were getting 60 billion in FREE money over 10 years. Now that FREE money can be used to invest in young Americans.

The vast majority of those families getting food stamps have family members with jobs. But if you've lost your job under Bush, and are now working for minimum wage, you rely on the food stamps to feed your kids. Some would call that a "small business subsidy" because that small business doesn't make enough to cover all employee cost. Hmmm, business subsidy. Like Oil? Guess it's different if it's less than billions.

Investing in Young Americans.
Investing in US Infrastructure.
Investing in Education.
Investing in Health.

And there you have the "divide". Democrats call those investments a "good idea". Republicans call those same investments "socialism and wasted money".

basically that you use government to rob from workers to give to various constituencies, most of whom didn't work for those benefits, in order to enslave them into continually voting for Democrats.

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." Benjamin Franklin

Or maybe pass laws so they can rob from the workers to compensate their greed.
Gotcha!

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." Benjamin Franklin

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemingly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and prosperity instead of responsibility and performance, and we are determined to destroy their system under all conditions."

Right?

Wow, it really sounds like you know what you are talking about. Except, it doesn't make sense. Even welfare has a "work requirement". Remember that Mitt said Obama wanted to end the work requirement? What were they talking about? Think about it.

Mitt Romney is moving one of his companies from Freeport, Il, where workers are paid 17.50 an hour to China where workers will be paid 99 cents an hour. He can do that because China is socialist and the government handles peoples health care. Who could possibly believe we are anywhere close to that in this country? Besides, well, you know....

Oh, and don't say that company wasn't doing well, because it was making money hand over fist.

And don't say "blind trust". We have Romney ON TAPE calling that a "ruse" and a "trick" on the American people. His Secretary/lawyer handles his "blind trust" so he knows what he is talking about.

The problem is, if the GOP keeps using this rhetoric, they will continuously alienate more and more people.

Jindal was right to criticize Romney.

Romney is arrogant, bitter, and clueless. That's why he lost.

I believe Jindal is criticizing Romney as a way of positioning himself within the Republican Party. Suddenly, hating Romney is "the new thing". Jindal is probably the ONLY Catholic in the world that doesn't believe in evolution.

The funny thing is you are criticizing Romney for being honest: You don't dispute that they were gifts, you just think they are a good idea. And continuing to Blame Bush, of course, even though he tried to push immigration reform.

Republicans are the only political party in the entire world who believes necessities are "gifts". America needs an educated population for it to remain number one in technology and science. An edge we are rapidly losing because Republicans believe education is for snobs.

America on health care is dismal. Medical bills being the number one cause of bankruptcy. "Let him die"? Republicans really said that? Yes they did.

Half a dozen bridges are being condemned every month. Only a few years ago, during rush hour, a crowded bridge collapsed. Over a hundred thousand unsafe.

Our electrical system is antiquated. Sandy proved that. But Republicans feel investing in American infrastructure is a waste of money????

I swear, they won't be happy until we are back in the stone age.

What were the "gifts"?

Typical liberal can't tell the difference between welfare and entitlements.

If you take a loan out at a certain interest rate, you're responsible for paying it.

The left wants things for free- Obamaphones, Obamacare, birth control and they think they are entitled. They aren't, and those things are gifts. Too bad the people aren't thankful to the workers who provide these gifts and they continue to vilify them.

Im not sure Romney is correct in characterizing them as gifts. Gifts implies voluntariness.

He is the beltway. What choice do we have?

As long as there are only a two party system, you guys are screwed

Obamaphones?

Either pay for birth control now or pay for unwanted children later. Which one do you want to invest in? "Let him starve" may be a Republican policy, but in the long run, the cost will be much higher. Try to figure out why.

And when Romney said Obama ended the "work requirement", what do you think he was lying about?
