You really are an idiot.
The ends are totalitarianism, enforced equality.

I wouldn't call it stupidity so much as intellectual laziness. They come up with well intentioned but poorly conceived solutions that don't work and don't want to deal with it, so when it doesn't work they just say we didn't throw enough government regulations and money at the problem and we need to do the same thing that didn't work again. The definition of insanity...Liberalism is based on stupidity. It's based on a gut feeling of what one wishes were true or possible, but reality of the world does not agree with.
For example, total equality is impossible. Yet, liberalism, by definition, is the pursuit of equality. How much equality is enough? It's never enough. With each step towards equality, with success, comes the next endeavor of equality. The final result........a society in which every single aspect of life is dictated and controlled by a central authority in the name of "equality". And that can only be achieved with overwhelming force.
I've found that very few who've coopted (read: hijacked) the name know nothing about Liberalism.Id prefer to hear the answer from liberals themselves. I want to see what they say their underlying principles are.
I agree with you, but I'm not aware of very many classic liberals. I'm aware of zero who hold office. I do have friends who are liberal who believe in gun rights, oppose the social welfare state and want government to regulate less and not more. But they have no say in politics right now and they aren't taking the liberal label back. They also tend to give the left credit for trying, though they frequently vote Republican as the lesser evil because they oppose Democratic solutions.I've found that very few who've coopted (read: hijacked) the name know nothing about Liberalism.Id prefer to hear the answer from liberals themselves. Most are more akin to social democrats or democratic socialists.

Damn, it'd sucked to be you back in the 60's.

That the PURPOSE of government is to serve THE PEOPLE OF THE NATION.
According to our Constitution, in my opinion, the purpose of government is NOT to 'serve' the people. It is to:
1. Establish a more perfect union.
2. Establish justice
3. Provide for the common defense.
That's it. End of. It says so in the preamble... ie the reason behind the Articles.

What do you think a more perfect union means?

Yep. we're absolute polar opposites on 99% of that with the exception of being Pro-NRA and Anti-'healthy' laws.I'm a self-described "liberal".
I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-DADT repeal.
I'm in favor of a simple, progressive tax system.
I'm in favor of expanding medicare, and social security.
I'm against all nanny-state, "healthy" laws. I smoke cigarettes, I drink.
I'm anti-prohibition. That applies to all drugs, prostitution, etc.
I'm against special interests controlling congress. I disagree with the Citizens United decision.
On Global Warming, I agree with EVERY SINGLE MAJOR SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION, and believe that climate change exists, and we're making it worse.
On most issues, I'll come down on the same side as the ACLU.
On some issues, I'll come down on the same side as the NRA.
On the Political Compass test, I'm in the mid left, far bottom.
