What are the odds that MCconnel will pick up the Impeachment?

Picking it up is one thing.

How seriously he accepts is is another.

If Democrats continue to reject due process, he should not take it seriously.
 
Ofcourse he'll take it up! He'll open it to the public, put it on TV for all to see...and subpoena obama, hillary, schiff pelosi, lynch, comey clapper brennan strzok page bruce ohr nellie ohr steele mifsud and many many more!

Place them all under oath!!!

An impeachment isn't "picked up". Maybe you're thinking of a singles bar. Articles of impeachment are drawn up by the House and sent to the Senate for trail. The latter doesn't have a choice of "picking up" anything.
 
He doesn't have to do an impeachment if it stinks

He'd be stupid to not hold a trial. It would only serve to make it appear like he's doing so to shield Trump and Senate Republicans. Especially if McConnell thinks the House's impeachment is weak, he'd be surrendering the opportunity show that in a trial.

Lastly, if he doesn't hold a trial, the Articles of Impeacment remain on the table and the next Senate may not be as protective for Trump as this one should Trump get re-elected.

I don't believe there's anything in the Constitution forcing the Senate to hold a trial. All the Constitution states is:

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

... the way I read that is they have sole power to hold a trial upon an impeachment, which includes not holding a trial. I don't see anything in that stating they have to hold a trial.

Regardless, the Senate has another option to avoid a trial, if they so choose. With only a simple majority, they can dismiss the impeachment charges.

Though both scenarios are unlikely as just yesterday, Senate Republicans have stated if the House impeaches, they will hold a full trial.

The senate is the jury of an impeachment and cannot do that.

Maybe they'll hold a trial and not let Democrats call witnesses.

Maybe they'll just vote Trump innocent without witnesses, since there is no evidence of wrongdoing.
 
I doubt the Dems will vote to impeach. Better for them to draw out these kangaroo hearings in order to take up air time.
 
Why wouldn't McConnell want the Senate Dems to vote on Trump's removal from office? Vote 'YES' and face the voters in their next election, which is a problem for them unless they're from a deep blue state. Vote 'NO' to acquit Trump, and watch their campaign donations vanish? I don't see where McConnell has anything to lose by conducting the Senate trial. The Repubs get to hammer the Dems all day every day. Trump might not want the trial to take place, so he might be somewhat displeased but the end verdict is clearly going to be an acquittal.
